What's the difference between this and the privatization of the Mt Gambier Prison's operations aside from the fact this is for the ARC, and not a private prison?
Huh, the Liberal Government prior to Rann privatised Mt Gambier to Group 4.

It is different in the sense the operations of a Remand Centre are substantially different to that of a prison. Most of the substantive criticisms of private prisons do not apply to the same extent for a Remand Centre.

Given the behaviour of the PSA with regard to the Remand Centre there are pretty compelling reasons to get it far out of the Union's hands really.
Hmm, think there will be similar issues to privatising Mt Gambier.

All Corrections is very unionised for sure. Rostered sick days...

Inferred my ass, only someone as woke as you could come up with that, my reference was to the lefty media who are all over anything with the slightest hint of racism. Still waiting for Tim Soutphommasane to come out and lambast Michael Daley's comments like he does anytime someone from the right of Politics even gives a hint of a racial comment.

Just on this, he did, he spoke about it live on the ABC and condemned Daley's remarks.

From the Oz -
https://outline.com/RW4mye - Population ‘turning point’

International students, who now number more than 500,000, would be offered an extra year of temporary residency in Australia if they study in regional institutions and $15,000 scholarships would be offered to up to 1000 new overseas students to study in the bush.

This government is losing the plot. Taxpayer funded subsidies for overseas students makes little sense, and will only go towards rewarding universities that can't attract students on their own merits. I can see this scheme being easily rorted with dodgy education providers popping up again to take advantage of the grants. The other obvious problem is that it seems Australian students are not considered good enough for rural scholarships.

No doubt as a result of all those questioning why he was so silent on the matter. Still late is better than not at all.

Late? He was on to speak about it in the late morning/early afternoon, mere hours after it was initially reported - it's hardly as if he was trying to avoid it. The Guardian and ABC also covered the story.

You have to understand that a very large number of progressives don't have this blind allegiance to the parties they vote for (with Van Badham being a notable exception, regrettably).

Another brilliant article by Joe Hildebrand on the Politicalization of the aftermath of the Christchurch tragedy by the extreme elements of the left and right especially on social media.

The two big mistakes that Egg Boy made when he egged Fraser Anning
The teen dubbed Egg Boy has been hailed a hero for egging outspoken Senator Fraser Anning. But he’s not and made two errors.

I used to think Joe was just another "white man is evil" crazy leftie but he's firmly in the centre. I quite enjoy his articles.

Hildebrand has always been a firm centrist with a mild lean to the right, you'd have to be pretty far to the right to think that he was ever a 'crazy leftie'.

Or a crazy far leftist to think Hillebrand leans to the right. Wow, astonishing.

Two questions:

1) Tomorrow if white working class men of European descent suddenly, en mass, started following Islam would the left still defend it?
2) Is there any conversation that can be had on immigration, foreign ownership or the abuse of the 457 program without it being deemed right wing/racist?

Truly worrying...on a whole range of financial fronts.

Voters have not been told the full story on cost of carbon
https://www.afr.com/news/economy/vo...-full-story-on-cost-of-carbon-20190318-h1ci5r

Economics is only just beginning to be understood. Like now. That means anything even today is most likely going to be wrong and stuff like this based on yesterday's stuff is all but given to be wrong. These clowns have no idea.

Of all the stuff claimed in there, only the lower end real wage loss looks realistic to me.

Shot down by anyone that doesn't have a horse in the race as well?

Everyone under the age of 40 has a horse in the race of not dying from climate change as the weather and atmosphere reach a point no longer conducive to sustaining human life. The people who don't have a horse in the race are the ones ringing up the metaphorical credit card, because they'll die of old age before it happens, leaving the consequences behind.
