Well, I'm not sure who the "elites" are you're referring to, but there's no shortage of discussion about how and why Trump won.

Especially considering that Hillary had almost 2 million more votes than him, but that's part of the perversity of the electoral college, I guess.

But why did you quote this article? You think it's weird that Robert DeNiro won an award? If DeNiro was English he would have been knighted by now, so why shouldn't he win an award?

Or was it Bill Gates you though was weird? Considering his foundation has done more to wipe out disease in the third world than anyone in history, he probably deserves a thumbs up.

Anyway - the whole world is being run by the far right now, Bicks. You've won. Trump is going to come in and help the poor in the Midwest and make America great again. I'm not sure why you need to post anymore as you're the victor.

Eight Democratic electors attempted to vote against Clinton — four in Washington state and one each in Minnesota, Maine, Hawaii and Colorado. But three of the eight who attempted to buck Clinton were replaced by state election officials, raising questions about whether their "faithless" votes will be counted. In Colorado, a leader of the anti-Trump Democratic electors, Micheal Baca, was replaced by Republican Secretary of State Wayne Williams for his attempted faithless vote. A Minnesota elector was replaced as well and in Maine, elector David Bright initially cast a vote for Bernie Sanders but recast it for Clinton after he was deemed out of order.

if you don't read the newspaper you're uninformed, if you do read the newspaper you're misinformed.

good quote, not sure how to reconcile you posting that amongst all your cherry-picked news articles you though.

Classic. Rudd believes to improve the discontent with democracy we should pump more money into public broadcasters like the ABC.

How does favouring one side of politics improve democracy?

State Labor takes 2PP lead 51-49

Even with the Libs getting their way with the redistribution it could still all be in vain
Libs need at least 2 extra strong, popular personalities in their ranks.

People know Jay, Tom, Rau etc. if nothing else, they know what they get with them.

Libs are all a mystery.

Corey Wingard would do well to become more prominent.

I don't even know who the shadow treasurer is.

Until they can show that they have a strong team and are capable of the job, they won't win an election

Isn't Lucas shadow Treasurer again?

Need to get rid of Vickie Chapman as she is a cancer.

Just get some quality in the ranks & a leader with vision wouldn't go astray.

According to one poll.

What do you think of Labor taking the redistribution to court? Weren't you one to criticise the Libs for whinging about the boundaries?
I called out the Libs hypocrisy crying about the boundaries when they notoriously gerrymandered results themselves in the past.

Rebel Greens faction to fight police, capitalism
  • The Australian
  • 12:00AM December 23, 2016

A newly formed hard-left faction within the Greens has publicly stated it does not believe in the rule of law or the legitimacy of the Australian state and says it will work to “bring about the end of capitalism”.

Formed around federal NSW senator Lee Rhiannon and NSW upper house MP David Shoebridge, the “Left Renewal” faction has published a statement of principles that is at odds with its own party and contradicts the Greens’ national policies in several key areas.

In forming the faction, Left Renewal said the Greens were failing those with liberal beliefs.

“Positions of power and influence within the party are falling to those with liberal politics, who manipulate party processes and abuse their resources to take and solidify their control,” the new faction’s Facebook page says.

The group opposes market-based mechanisms, such as a carbon tax or an emissions trading scheme, as methods to address climate change, and will have a binding caucus in which members will be forced to follow the majority view expressed within the faction.

Candidates supported by the hard Left have lost in recent state preselections in NSW, prompting the unified group looking to wrest power from what it sees as a right-wing body.

In a statement of principles, the group describes itself as “advocates for peace” and rejects the authority of the police.

“A rejection of class antagonism, and capitalism, also depends on a rejection of the state’s legitimacy and the right of it, and its apparatuses, to impose oppression upon the working class,” it says.

“We further rejected state- mediated oppression in all of its forms, and recognise that violent apparatuses like the police do not share an interest with the working class.”

Former Greens leader Bob Brown previously has called for Senator Rhiannon to bow out of politics to make room for “renewal”.

The ABC is a trusted and honest journalistic outlet. Articles are sourced, researched and balanced.

The only people that don't think so are those that wade around in Fox News and the Murdoch Press and spend so much time in the far right propaganda press that they now think that's "truth".

I'm not sure what your point is.

The ABC maintains a fact checking department, which checks all public statements made by politicians on both sides of parliament.

They are public and transparent around viewer complaints, which are documented on their website.

They have a journalistic code of conduct, which enforces balance and accuracy across their entire work force.

They do a job where success is measured by truthfulness, not ratings or profits.

It'd certainly be easier for them to suck up to the government of the day. Especially when they're threatened with funding and job cuts.

The ABC's Fact Check unit is set to close as part of budget cuts likely to result in the loss of 14 jobs across the corporation.

ABC News director Gaven Morris confirmed the proposed changes in an email to staff on Wednesday afternoon

I would agree that the ABC & SBS are generally more informative about real issues than other networks, which are more concerned about infotainment.

Each to their own though...

Airline removes men who 'expressed displeasure' flying with Ivanka Trump
Posted about 10 hours ago

He has since deleted his Twitter account.

JetBlue released a statement, citing the possibility of "the risk of escalation during flight" in explaining the decision to remove the men.

"The decision to remove a customer from a flight is not taken lightly. If the crew determines that a customer is causing conflict on the aircraft, the customer will be asked to deplane," it said.

The airline said the couple was rebooked for the next available flight.

A spokeswoman for the Trump family declined comment but did not dispute the accounts.
