It's not that odd, it's instinct. Human brains like tribes. Defend yours, denounce the others, etc.

I must admit I favour a West Australian accent to an Indonesian one when I’m on the phone to the ATO or Telstra etc.
But that’s purely for practical reasons.

When I make these types of calls an inner voice says “thank god it’s an Aussie”.
