How many republican or Democrat voters are there in Australia?.
Trump or Biden who gives a **ck.
Morrison or Albanese should be the question.

Still grasping at straws for something to distract hey? Ideally all people earning > 500k should be paying more tax, not less but if those earning > ~850k are paying a lot more tax than they have been then overall the policy is still worthwhile. Keen to see the finalised plan before reacting positively or negatively about it though tbh.

Of course the smarter move by Biden would be to just stop doing anything. Follow that previous orange turd's lead and just talk about doing stuff, keep saying it will happen soon, and then do absolutely nothing. It is pretty damning that "sleepy Joe" has done far more in his first year than that previous sack of s**t did in his entire presidency. If the old guy that falls asleep at the table is out performing you then probably best to just concede you that you are completely out of your depth. Well except that whole insurrection thing - that was something Adolf Twitler did 'achieve'. Any word on when any and all involved, including Don the Con, end up in prison?

I just came here to say that Scott Morrison is probably the least capable world leader in action at the moment. He comes across a lazy, inept and totally out of his depth manager who wouldn’t exert even the tiniest amount of authority in his own home, let alone his party, the country or the international stage. Hes only our Prime Minister because Shorten is so stupid he thought he’d go to the election with a socialist agenda. This country is ******* doomed. Education is falling behind the rest of the world, his carbon neutral bluprint looks like it was a year 10 science project, broadband is quicker in Estonia than it is in Australia and he or his party can’t deal with China because they can’t take the emotion out of anything they do. But I suppose having a vast vocabulary and a world class ability to talk sh*t for hours and say nothing at all is really all it takes to be a pollie these days.
I just wanted to get that off my chest.
Yeah for someone so incredibly arrogant, Scott Morrison would have to be up there as one of the dumbest leaders we've ever had. Probably not as dumb as Abbott but at least Tony was smart enough to know he wasn't very smart and acted within his limitations. Meanwhile ScoMo acts like he is the smartest man in the room, despite him clearly having the tainted touch. Literally everything he has touched, has turned to s**t. I feel sick thinking I will have no choice but to vote for Albanese - yuck, just yuck! Literally the only remotely positive thing I can say about Morrison is at least him being the leader of the Libs, means that Dutton isn't. It is just plain scary that he is very likely next in line. I'm just as angry at Labor for enabling these morons.

Hilarious - so nothing to say. Then deflect back to Trump. gotcha.

Re: Biden doing more than Trump: Are you referring to him stopping Trumps policies and then reinstating them?

If you are referring to more spending, then I would have thought given the inflation issue more spending would not be a good thing.

It seems as though those of us on both sides are unimpressed. I am waiting to see if Labor presents something worth voting for... otherwise I will be entirely uninspired going to vote at the next election.

Yes I have voted for the ALP before - McGowen when I lived in the Rockingham area and for Kevin 07.

I am not sure what I am meant to be distracting from... Anyway, here is a lefty source as I know many of you don't accept anything else.

Even if you don't have the sub, you should get the details from the headline.

I am here after reading a lot of intensely critical posts. I am able to do it without personal attacks on a poster or the current president and am only bringing to attention the things others were so passionately critical about. I am waiting for some consistency... anyone?

Same here I voted for McGowan because there was just no alternative, the same federally, there is no alternative to Morrison. Shorten and Albo are old hat Lefties and not credible. I though their best was Joel Fitzgibbon who was more centre minded and a far better communicator. We have had a lot of rabble after Keating and Howard.

Abbott was a Rhodes Scholar. They don't give them out to dumbies
Any anonymous donors/nepotism involved do you think? ;) Nooooo... it's all merit based isn't it!? A friend of mine missed out on a Rhodes Scholarship to a relation of someone on the selection panel. Was just a coincidence I am sure :) Strangely my friend is now a professor at Oxford, and the person that got the scholarship... I'm sure it's all very legit though and only the best of the best get those opportunities without any bias or quid pro quo.

I used to cross paths with Abbott a bit before he was PM and unless he is a good actor at hiding some amazing intelligence he remains one of the dumbest people I've ever met (in a professional working capacity). It was so awkward because I watch some of the footage of t***p and it reminds me of Tony - like explaining the most simple of things that you'd expect most people on the street to know, let alone the leader of a country.

Thousands of worthy people each year apply for a Rhodes. The vast majority miss out. Are you seriously suggesting that because a worthy person you know missed out, the process is corrupt?
As for your second paragraph, I have never met the man and don't like him, what he did to Gillard was appalling and his Catholicism is not my cup of tea. But one of the dumbest people you've ever met hey? You need to get out more.

The problem is that by the time you’re considered ‘next in line’ you’re a professional politician who probably went into politics 48 years ago to ‘make a difference’ but have been tainted by a lifetime of telling lies, attacking the man and spinning words around in circles. There would not be a group of people more out of touch with the average person than the elected officials that act on our behalf. Not only do they think they’re the cleverest people they know, they also think you and I are dead s**t yocals who are dumb as bricks.

At the time I met Abbott I had met and personally spoken to more than half the Members of Parliament and plenty of their key staff. Some of them were incredibly intelligent and insightful (irrespective of whether I agreed with their political stance or not). Some examples on the Liberal side... Ruddock - smart. Vanstone - smart. Hill - smart. Costello - smart. Fischer - smart. Anderson - smart. Downer - um... well he certainly wasn't dumb but pretty sure he's not a fellow member of Mensa. Abbott - I was in shock then and still find it surreal at how dumb the conversations I had with him were. When he became leader and then PM it was a wake-up call for me that major parties were more than happy to have anyone as the public figure head whilst the real power brokers pulled the strings behind closed doors.

On the Rhodes thing... it wasn't about my friend not getting one. It was him missing out leading us to check out who got one and that what we found was a person that happened to be related to a selection panel member. Maybe it was innocent but there is plenty of documented evidence of nepotism and suspect donations in these types of things. I'm far from a conspiracy theorist but based on my experience I would be very surprised if Abbott got a Rhodes based purely on merit.

state of political discourse is sad when current Labor (and democrats for that) are referred to as 'lefties'

legacy of mccarthyism and the cold war really damaged everyones brains
That's a good point. Both our primary parties are left of center and both are to the left of both US parties in action, but perhaps not rhetoric.

how do you think theyre both left of center?

theyre both primarily interested in the protection of capital and serve the interests of the propertied and corporations, anti-capitalist = left at least imo

I think both would claim the support of workers, both certainly appeal to the workers and both have similar positions on big spending from the top into programs like Medicare - regardless of what scare text messages might send on election day.

They both position themselves far more towards bigger centralised control governments offering services to the people over smaller distributed government where people are taxed less and look after themselves.

We have the best of both worlds.

And I agree that both also serve the interests of big business or otherwise industry power behind the scenes.

Partially agree - on the Dems... they are very left in rhetoric and some of their proposals but now have just given a massive tax cut to the rich so...

The last Government that you could say was left of centre in Australia was the Whitlam Government and Fraser, the man who opposed him 50 years ago had to quit the Liberal Party because of its extremist policies.

This country has veered so far to the right its an embarrassment. Just have to look at how the ballot papers in the house of representatives of recent years are stacked with minority parties from right to extreme right, so much so that you have to decided if whether an obvious bunch of repugnant racists like Pauline Hanson's One Nation is going to be the worst of them.

I think the definition of "right" has shifted.
