Brooks For Rix, one or the other. Brooks has upside, Rix does not. It's now time that we gave Brooks a crack at it, instead of playing Rix every game who's going nowhere fast. The decision must be made, who would you prefer to see playing ruck?

I'd like to see Brooks get a few games as a ruckman/forward with instructions to stay in the goalsquare when not rucking. No going up the ground no matter what his opponent does, meaning there's always someone at home for when there's a fast break.

We don't NEED another forward/ruckman - we've got Kosi, and we'll have Gardiner next year. Why bother with another one, that has had heaps of chances and pretty much blown them all. Lyon knows what he's doing with selections right now. Keep Rix, get rid of Brooks.

I'd agree with that. With Kosi and Gardiner (I hope not any more) injury prone. We need a stable low cost backup. Kosi's game on the weekend was about the best I've seen him play

I Still think Kosi's the FF after Gherig leaves or tandem with Roo. The Q's is though is Brooks better than Watts? I'd even rotate Gilbert through the 2 KP

I think as a list we are carrying quite a few big slow units, and perhaps too few 6' with a bit of pace

Also if we stick with Gardiner/Kosi/Rix we could look at some more 18yo?

Words of wisdom. Also our young ruckmen is Van Rehaan. I'm not too sure about Gilbert on rotation just yet though.

Damn straight. Personally i like
Rix
he puts in %110 each week although i believe he will be used sparingly when
Gardi
is fit.

Rix isnt hihgly skilled but we dont need that. We nedd a big body who can crash and bash after Kosi has set us up. He always gives 120% every time he plays. I love him in the team at the moment but next year he will be a Casey player cause big Mick "Our Savior" Gardiner will be back.

Rix could give 700% but he is still a crap footballer. He has poor skills, ordinary ruckwork, can't read the play and is too short to even negate Sandilands, Cox, Street etc. Hawthorn determined that he wasn't worth a spot on their rookie list, and he really hasn't changed much as a player since then.

In Brooks' one game in which he was given more than 60 minutes of game time, he had more disposals, marks and goals than Rix has ever had in a game. He has been in awsome form with Casey, while Rix keeps on getting a game in the seniors so he can have his 3 disposals and 8 hitouts every week.

Brooks is a great kick, reads the play well, is a strong mark, has a massive leap (which makes up for his lack of height at centre bounces) and kicks goals. He lost all confidence in himself for a couple of years after he did his knee, but he has been playing outstanding footy in the reserves for the past 3 years. GT wrote him off after the game in the back pocket against Port...Hopefully Lyon hasn't written him off. In the 10-12 times I have seen him play over the past 3 years he has never been soft or lazy. He obviously had a brain-fade when he let the Port player take an uncontested mark up forward, but that is really the only glaring error I have ever seen him make.

Rix is not up to AFL standard. He has the turning circle of the QE2. I really couldn't care less if he puts in 150% into each game...he is not AFL standard.

Barry Brooks would have been a permanent fixture in our team had he not done his knee 3 or 4 years ago. He is very agile for his height. He is a thumping kick, can take a pack mark and has a lot more pace than Rix.

Brooks should be told that he is in the team for the rest of the year. Give him some confidence and I am sure he will prove himself. In tandem with Kosi we would have a very mobile ruck combination that would also take turns in creating havoc in the forward line.

Rix on the other hand couldn't kick a goal if his life depended on it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we should get rid of Rix. He should be there as a backup.

Kicked a nice one from the pocket against WC a few weeks back. Kosi had a shot from the same place and missed. I commented to my brother that Kosi is no Rixy.

Rix is very similar to the jason blake conundrum:

You can't question his courage and enthusiasm, but his skills and football brain are not that of a 'quality' AFL player.

Ultimately, a better player could easily take his place. But that may never happen given our injury woes. Until then he deserves his place in the team.

I'd love to have the inside mail as to why Brooks hasn't really been tried this year..

If we accept that Gardiner and Kosi are our first choice ruckman and our young guy is developing. We also have to accept that we need a cheap backup who is not injury prone. Rix is it, I would like to see Brooks given another go, but there must be a reason why he hasn't.

Yes I did, it was not a goal!!!!! I can't remember if it was touched or if it actually missed. I think it just missed and the umpire got it wrong. Could someone please confirm.

Well I guess you made the trip up to Sydney, sat in the rain and watched it for yourself right?

Well I did, and it looked like a goal from where i was sitting. But i guess you had a better view from your chair infront of your television, if you even bothered to watch it.

Rix is massively limited in all aspects of his game. But he has a bigger crack than anyone out on the field, they r the players i like.

It's clear Ross Lyon doesn't rate brooks. He has been in good form for Casey, but still gets no recall.

If Brooks was delisted, would you think he would attract intrest from another club ?

The other factor is Van Rheenan. When we've got Kosi, Gardiner, Van Rheenan, Rix, why would we bother with Brooks? Because he can play forward?! Hah! We have more forwards than we know what to do with now.

Lyon inherited the list, because it was settled before he arrived. If he'd had his way, Brooks wouldn't even be there now.

I think it was his first kick. It deflected off the back of the post once through, but goal umpire was already turning his head away. So it was paid.

Van Rheenan is a rookie and hasn't shown enough to warrant the tag of "saviour". He has been OK but nothing out of the ordinary. Brooks could be brilliant if he has got his confidence back. But that may never return. I believe it's the gamble that Lyon has to make. C'mon Ross, give Brooksy a crack at it.

Earlier in the year Lyon seemed very keen to get Brooks into the side. He was named an emergency for the first few games, came into the side and was then a late exclusion for the next couple of weeks. Since he did his hammy I don't think he has even been an emergency, despite being in great form with Casey.

If Brooks was delisted then I have no doubt that he would end up at another AFL club. He is much better than anyone Carlton have in the ruck and would be second choice at Richmond (behind Simmonds).
