Have to agree Doc, we were always going to get smashed against Essendon. I will however always remember Kingys opening goal and the resultant look of 99 despair on the Essendon supporters faces. I swear the blood drained from some faces. The best six minutes of my life. Well nearly.

I was the wacko that voted for the Essendon thrashing.

The 1998 GF was unbelievably hard to swallow, but in the end it might have provided the spur for greater things in 1999. I believe in 1998 we were clearly the better of the two teams. In 1999 the difference was less pronounced and the emotional spur of the 1998 defeat may have helped to get us over the line.
Even though there was more at stake than in the 2000 finals thrashing, our play on the day was nowhere near as bad.

The 2000 finals thrashing signalled the passing of the baton in a way. The side of the late 1990s being belted by the best side of 2000 (and one which could expect plenty more success with their young line up). The performance was one of the most inept and humiliating displays ever by our great club, and was an embarrassing end to one of the most successful dynasties in our club's 130 year history.

With good planning and foresight, we will recover from it and turn it into a positive, but not since the Hawthorn matches of the late 1980s have the Kangaroos been anyone's bitch.

Where was the option to pick the 1995 loss to Richmond? I hate losing to the needle jabbers at the best of the times, but those losers are still trying to hold that one over us

I would have thought that:

North Melbourne 17.12.114 defeated the Tiger Bandwagoners 12.12.84 in the 2nd Qualifying Final of '95 would have removed any smugness they could have taken from that freak result in the home and away.
