Even if they were a quarter decent this todays voters loses enthusiasm after two terms.

Lets face it all they've got going for them is Murdochs hounds
It's got me stuffed how the rabble that is this conservative government is still polling so relatively well.

in modern politics, it's all about your team. It doesn't matter what your mob is doing, what matters is the other guys must be kept from power lest the world end. every political discussion will devolve into whataboitism by the third post. Troll and meme culture is a significant influence. Rhetoric is rewarded but not followed through on.

it's been forever thus, but it its reached a fever pitch of late. The LNP could switch to Dutton and carpet bomb Adelaide and they'd still have a TPP in the 40s. Because for a sizeable chunk of the electorate, actions simply do not matter.

When you’re buried so far left of reality, this is what you’re brainwashed into thinking!

Btw, Essential isn’t a poll worth taking seriously!

Next you'll be saying that newspoll IS....

yep, takes a while but people eventually forget how bad the last lot ie Gillard was.

Kennett ran a vastly superior administration to this one (and Kirner was even worse than Gillard) yet still got the Tijuana Brass after two terms IIRC

Libs could do with some time in opposition.

Except they won’t learn. From their demeanour and actual quotes they believed the electorate made a huge mistake voting for the ‘non adults’ Rudd etc. JWH losing his own seat didn’t make the penny drop

Their preselections have been awful. Too many Melbourne Grammar knob sorts straight out of uni with a shitty degree acting as staffers and then getting a safe seat.

They used to have people like Charles Copeman trying to get elected, now its muppets like Alex Hawke (surprise surprise Arts degree then staffer).

Newscorp & the MSM aren't about getting people to think.....They're about getting people to not think.

Actually, preselection is slowly being taken over across the board by happy clapper types who worship Abbott and Andrews, look at what's happening in Victoria - a resolution from the dominant young Liberals branch, who have been putting up candidates rolling 'moderates' in preselection, calling for the Liberal party to add to its party platform changing the discrimination laws so that they only read man and woman, removing legal protections from transgender people, and promoting 'gay conversion therapy' and make it a service health providers are required to offer on request. It's all non-binding, but they have so many numbers that sitting members are afraid of opposing them in public, for fear of being targeted in preselection.

Rather than accept that they have less members, less money, and less support for their ideology and policies for a reason, they've courted the religious right so heavily for the easy money, and organised fanatical support, that they've been taken over by it.

There are almost no committee level, or even member, female young liberals.

Diversity in terms of wealth, gender and education has actually taken a massive dive in the party. It's literally just Caufield grammar man babies, who shitpost 4chan or The_Donald memes, hate Muslims and women, and think unhinged Abbott style volatility is good politics.

Either the party is ****ed and will become completely unrepresentative, or the country is ****ed.

yep, go back to the Hawke cabinet. People in there with real world experience, both parties have gone downhill since. People like Tim Fischer actually got on with people across the divide as well as the general public. The libs have lost touch with their small business constituency as they are stuffed full of young libs staffer muppets and ditto the ALP re the working class (how many Alp mps now have actually been in a blue collar job?)

I know a few smart people who would be a massive upgrade from the usual Liberal dross but why would they bother? Big pay cut, stress on family and unlikely to break the clique and even get selected let alone in to cabinet.

Albo is the only good politician from this entire generation. And Plibersek and Wong are acceptable.

I was smarter than Abetz and Lyonhelm when I was 5 years old. Shorten/Bourke don't exactly pass the adult test either. Probably should just go jump in the church with the rest of them.

They've got nothing to offer. Not fit to bring in the tea and sandwiches for the Hawke cabinet. Just a couple of Arts grads with ideas above their station.
