Sad to hear of the death of one of the games TRUE legends. Polly was a magnificent player, a true innovator and visionary in the way he played the game. A magnificent body player, superbly skilled in all aspects of the sport, he revolutionised ruck play and handball in general.

Vale Poll.

I was waiting for you to post something about Polly.

My father in law was a die hard Fitzroy supporter back in the day.

He has only got an interest in footy since I married his daughter and has three die hard Pies supporters as grandchildren.

He always talks about the “gun old players” from back in the day when we talk footy from all Clubs.
I love hearing his stories.

He rated Polly very very high........gun.

R.I.P Polly.

Superb talent - overcame childhood polio, some of his comments about the racism he faced showed rare wisdom and humanity - a total gentleman and role model for everyone
Those huge long looping handballs a pleasure to watch

We were privelged to watch him and everyone could learn from his words along the lines of "if I responded to every piece of abuse all I would be doing was fighting - I used it to make myself stronger" - his football skills and exemplary behaviour put the sad pathetic abusers where they belong - irrelevant

The National Gallery of Victoria rarely if ever post footy related stuff on their insta account, but they posted this yesterday, in respect:

Perhaps I should have said "Deadly Legend"? My point mainly was that Polly Farmer WAS the best of the best. He WAS/ IS and probably will be the greatest exponent of RUCK PLAY that we've ever seen. Nic Nat occasionally leaps like Farmer did but most modern ruckmen don't even know how to hang in the air like Farmer did or to shift his body in mid air to block his opponent.
Farmer was coordinated and quick (despite one shorter leg) and his ability to read the play was brilliant. We usually associate the type of vision he had to be "Like Pendlebury" but he was a RUCKMAN doing it!!!

Beautiful kick, fabulous mark, tough and balanced. Players knew NOT to rile him because he was also incredibly strong and if you got him riled up then he'd just take over a game!

Seeing Mike Sheahan try to compare John Nicholls to Farmer last night and having Sammy Newman shut that down was perfect. Polly would cut "Big Nick" up (even as the old man he was when he came to Victoria)

Polly Farmer is probably Top 3 in my books:
1. Leigh Matthews
2. John Greening
3. Polly Farmer

He was the sort of footballer you wished you could have been, the sort you didn't mind watching even when he was defeating your team.

All time great of the greats of our game.

Made rucking an art form and elevated its play.

Elite record.

Wonderful for our indigenous people.
The greatest of all indigenous players.

Great loss.
An immortal of our game.

Polly was a true legend of the game, and a great person as well.
R.I.P Polly, will be missed but not forgotten
