I'm a big boy and can handle roobear. Rose Tattoo are utter shite. The Angels I can tolerate. The Whitlams I like.

The Tatts debut is all good. Anything after....m'eh.

Unlike you, The Angels I can't tolerate.

You're risking an attack from the mythical Australian outback creature, the roobear.

And, yep, there's always room for The Whitlams in any discussions of evil incarnate.

Mythical? :(

I can accept people not liking The Angels, I just feel sorry for the hole they are leaving in their lives.

Yep, much smaller boys than you could. (I don't like how that came out, but I can't think of another way to put it)
Rose Tattoo are utter shite.
I don't know how you can say that, but ok. (oh come on. Even "We Can't Be Beaten"? "Rock n Roll Outlaw"? "Nice Boys"? "The Butcher and Fast Eddie"? )
The Angels I can tolerate.
Your life is more complete than a lot of others on this board then. :thumbsu:
The Whitlams I like.
In the context of your other opinions, that's just plain weird.

Not entering into this debate, but.......aaah, Metallica.

I implore you to watch the doco "Some Kind Of Monster".

Best laugh you'll have all year.

Now stop ya whinging......

Not whinging, just have a lot of history to catch up on, what about skyhooks?

Ah the cricket song band (I know it isn't really), hadn't even thought of them.

Its clear thar from the help I am getting here especially from TOD's list that in many cases i'll just be buying single tracts not albums.

They would be wrong

But none of this is getting me closer to my playlist. I have (Pre BJ) AC/DC, The Oils, Goanna, Gangajang, Cat Empire, Casanovas, 1200 Techniques, MAW. Chisel, Barnsie, Icehouse, MGF, Wolfmother, Pendulum.

Ahh, the Casanovas. If they only got the exposure of Jet and The Vines. Ballsy oz rock.

Perfectly reasonable way to describe Sherbert.

And singles probably the best approach to an Australia Day BBQ anyway - once you get pissed enough you want the 'classics', not some obscure crap which you know you ought to like but really, who can be bothered?

And the Divinyls should be on the list.

Some others that come to mind;

Eddie Current Supression Ring, The Galvatrons, Little Red, British India(i think they're aussie), Dappled Cities Fly, oh and an awesome balls out rock group Wolf and Cub, find songs called This Mess, Poison Fang, Hands go Down.

As its a BBQ, i probably will add Divinyls, but wouldn't usually buy female vocal bands (just a personal preference, if a little strange).

suspect you're far from alone on this board (if the bands proposed thus far are any indication!!)

ECSR are cool. Wolf And Cub go alright, too.

Dappled Cities (they've dropped the "Fly" part) are quality, and released one of the best Australian albums of the year, last year, with their "Granddance" long player. Not sure if you'd term it as "party music" but it's a ripper.

Skyhooks > Sherbert

Youtube is your friend.

Beat me to it.

What about The Aztecs*, Twilights, The Easybeats, Daddy Cool,** Little River Band, The Party Boys, Mondo Rock, Brian Cadd, JPY, Black Feather, Broderick Smith, Hush, Uncanny X Men and there used to be a small group in the ealry '60's who made it big O/S called The Bee Gees (well they came from the UK to Brisbane so they count sort of)...

And to those of you who think Sherbert are the band with the "cricket" song, it was not their only hit, put it this way girls, if you were around my generation back then, give or take 10 years either side, some of you would have been big fans - aaaaahhh Garth with the great hair. hmmm.

* Also read Billy Thorpe
** Also read Mondo Rock

Props for mentioning the great Billy Thorpe and The Easybeats....but The Party Boys ? My god.

And I should Red Card you just for mentioning Uncanny X-Men.

But since you went there......Psuedo Echo, Kids In The Kitchen, Swanee, The Radiators, Dear Enemy, Moving Pictures.....need I go on ?

Party killers, every last one of them.

Deb Conway (Do-Re-Mi)
Chrissie Amphlett (Divinyls)
Ella Hooper (Killing Heidi)

A quality trifecta IMHO.

Any chance of expanding that threesome to a foursome, and making room for Kasey Chambers ?

(Mmmmm.....Kasey Chambers.)

at least i didn't mention the Allen Brothers :D

Different times different tastes tho i agree with most on your last list (Moving Pictures were ok after many Johnny Walkers at a pub) especially Psuedo Echo - was dragged along to see them at Bombay Rock one time, grrrrrrrrrrrrrr... I propped at the bar most of the night.

If you don't have The Angels, Rose Tattoo and Australian Crawl, your party will be shit. You have been warned.

INXS pre Powerstation influence. Just get Shabooh Shoobah and nothing later than that. And you can play all the Cold Chisel you want but leave Barnsey solo in the rack.
