A joke right? This isnt under 9s, Smith is playing for Australia in the World Cup.

He is probably being paid 10-20 times the average salary to represent Australia at the highest level of cricket, and the struggler cant even listen to basic calling.

As someone else said, you would be yelled at in 3rd grade cricket for that sort of stupidity!

Australian cricketers these days are an embarassment. Ponting may be out of form, but he is not a useless pretty boy like Smith!

Wish he would be dropped from one dayers and tests for the rest of his life (Smith that is!)

Smith is pretty?

i really don't think anyway you look at that incident can look good.

lets put it this way... if another player did this when AB or Taylor or Tugga were captain, they would be hauled over the coals in the dressing room....

Have any of you nuffies ever played any team sports?

When a skipper is pissed off and makes it known, you take notice. If Punter feels the need to make a statement on the ground, so be it.

It's the ****ing World Cup!

a statement by having a dummy spit??

i would've thought getting the team together in a huddle and telling them he's pissed off and the performance isn't good enough might have worked a bit better...

throwing balls and turning away from the team with a muted celebration doesn't do much to galvanise the blokes around you.

ponting has been a great player but this summer will not be looked on with a lot of fondness.... however i guess all will be forgiven if we get away a world cup won't it.... hmmmmm

Fact of the matter is Ponting has been in pretty poor form for the best part of 18 months now. He's looked pretty poor this tournament. Again last match he got out trying to play tho pull short and got rushed, against Canada. Incidents like his onfield blow up at the MCG and the one against Canada, the breaking the tv (yeah, from bouncing the box) show a man under pressure and, moreso than the team, feeling the heat of his own performances, which are simply not what they were at his peak. He has continued to show a lack of willingness to adjust his game with age. It's a pretty poor look to be having dummy spits in the manner he has been.

im all for leaders and captains to make statements, for their teamates to follow their lead. no problem with that :thumbsu:

in fact, punter used to make the BEST statements for us - RUNS. he's done it time and again for us, hell he even saved one of his greatest innings for a world cup final for us in 2003

but i would much rather he make his statements by actually getting some runs again for us. let's face it, he's had a poor world cup with the bat to date, and has been out of form with the bat for us for a long period of time now. he knows this more than anyone, he seems to set very high standards for us

what i do have a problem with is the manner in which he has chosen to make his recent statements. dummy spit by throwing the ball into the ground, the TV incident a coupe of weeks ago, and of course his petulant/childish confrontation of the umpire at the G during the Ashes

again, im all for statements. but i would prefer him to lead and inspire the boys with his bat

Paw widdle Stevie Smiff might have his feelings hurt by that nasty old Ricky Ponting when he threw the ball after he caught it.

Anyone bagging Ponting here is a tool. Nothing wrong with what he did or how he reacted.

Needs to give it away. And this is coming from a massive Ponting fan.

Although having said that I wouldn't be surprised if pulls out a match-winning knock before the tournaments out. North style if you may. ;)

Rubbish. Nothing to do with who the other player was, all to do with Pontings losing his cool. Again. 3rd time in 3 months he has lost his cool. He's also not scoring runs. He's had a history of blowing up under pressure (eg England 05) and whether from himself all the media the fact that he looks a mere shadow of the player he was at present seems to be getting to him.

It's actually quite sad, he was the best in the world for a 6 year period there. It's now pretty debateable as to whether he should be selected going into the future.

His field placings tonight have been terrible.

Seriously, we are defending a low total and we don't have any slips in

Puts a short leg in for Krejza...after two had popped up into that empty space. What a nuffy, anybody can follow the ball around like Ponting does.

Not impressed.

It's a shame that Krejza doesn't insist on more attacking fields. He's the one that has to bowl to it.

I highly doubt Punter would listen to any spinner and his opinions on field placings. He clearly doesn't rate spin at all

So now it's Punter's fault our bowlers are shit?

We've got one decent bowler, and he's a bloody pensioner.

I know I'm going against the BigFooty fashion here, but Johnson and Tait have fantastic ODI records, and they have them for a reason. Watson is a gun with the ball as well.

Krejza is our only real liability. Unfortunately, he looks so damn good when he's bowling that he's hard to drop. You always feel he's just around the corner from a matchwinning spell, but it just never comes. You're always left waiting.

Our batting form right now is of far greater concern.
