It’s the game style we play that limits our progress. it’s team defence and clever passing at the expense of learning to play tough man-on-man football.

It’s ok to guard grass or kick to space, but at some stage you need to beat an opponent.

We select players who are not good man-on-man, so when we play good teams like Melbourne or Richmond we look good in patches but when the game needs to be won fail miserably.

It’s the total opposite of our 2016 team. Bevo has taken us 180 degrees since then. He inherited McCartneys style and added his own. They complimented each other perfectly. Since then we lost the contested edge and have not been the same since. TBH unless he changes, I can’t see him taking us any further.
Nailed it. All sizzle and no steak.

2nd ruck didn't effect much.
Baku did ok
It was too many midget forwards Even worse they are really excess midfielders not needed as we have a midfield.,So they are playing forward. Ridiculous ,l don't need to name them. They all would be ok midfielders, but apart from weightman aren't forwards.. Naughton has a down game and no one else to go to.Because we are too short.
English kicks goal late in the last - Dogs less then a goal down
English off for a rest
Khamis attends centre square ruck contest against Stanley
Stanley walks past Khamis - grabs ball and kicks deep into Geelong Forward Line - Cameron Goal!

Didn't effect much?

Ways to move the ball out of defence
1 Run and Gun with Dale/Richards
2 Short Precision Passing
3 High risk Kick into the corridor
4 Safe kick down the line to Ruck who marks or carries ball out of bounds takes pressure off repeat entries.

When English is not in the Ruck the 4 th option is gone. The opposition know it! The opposition Rucks eat up the down the line kick - that alone cost us the Adelaide Game. The opposition tighten up on the other 3 options - over the course of the game this might only lead to 1-2-3 additional turn-overs per game but those turn-over are almost always shots at goal.

Not having a Second Ruckman means that when your first Ruckman is off - you are in trouble agains the better teams. It may have cost us this game, it definitely cost us the Adelaide Game and it was a glaring feature of the Richmond loss earlier in the year.

I actually can't even watch us against the better teams when this is happening - i

All the top teams play 2 rucks.

Freo fact played 3 rucks- Lobb, Darcy and Meek last week.

In the past two weeks they have absolutely dominated the air against Brisbane and Melbourne (no less) both of whom have pretty handy ruck combos themselves.

It’s as if Bevo and the MC don’t bother watching what is happening in other games.
