I know i am not going to win any friends with this post but i have to voice my dissapointment in how the Essendon supporters (as a collective group) on BF have handled the loss to St Kilda.

Their has been two or three threads on the so called discraceful umpiring, calls for players heads to role and never put on the jumper again and the slamming of a number of players.

All of this because we lost a practise match to a very very good team by 3 points.

I would hate to think how our supporters act during the real season in matches that count for premiership points.

Well done to St Kilda and well done to the Dons for fighting the game out even though they were outplayed for almost all of the night. Thumbs down to us sore losers.

I'm all for that but i was also taught how to be a good sport and gracious in defeat. :thumbsu:

I agree also.

Same thing happened last year when we lost to Geelong and a number of members posted on the main board slamming Geelong claiming them lucky, they only won because of our injuries and umpiring.

Sure the umpiring was ordinary but whining about it does nothing and you sound like a bunch of immature brats and bad sportsman, which then rubs off on the rest of Essendon supporters.

Time for some to grow up.

You only have to listen to the radio today to hear the talkback callers ring in and say how disgraceful our "so called" supporters were last night at the actual match.

Strange I actually never come across this and I last night sat Level 2 for the first half and moved to Level 1 for the second.

Could hear some quite fired up people on the train on the way home though (and I can't blame them).

Great to see passionate fans - abusive/stupid fans NO

I have not commented on the umpires. They where ordinary but that is footy. Some weeks you are on the good end and some weeks you are on the bad end.

As far as making comment on players you don't get it do you. It was not about the loss or about it being a NAB Cup game or a regular season game. It was about falling back into the BS habits that have made us a bad side over the last 4 years. If we had of lost by 4 goals but players showed they had turned the corner and where willing to do more of the small things i would have been happy. The most annoying thing is the fact that the young blokes will shepherd and block while the older blokes who should know better cruise around looking for cheap stats.
The result tonight was pretty much irrelivent. What needed to happen was players to continue improving on the areas that where talked about all pre season. That didnt happen in last nights game.
Its not about being a sore loser. It is about being pissed off that we can just fall back to the same lazy habits year after year after year.

Nothing wrong with being passionate and getting fired up at the footy but once the game is done and dusted suck it up and give credit to the winners. I think i learnt that in under 10's when our coach abused us for complaining to the umpires after losing a game by 5 points with a dodgy decision late in the game.

Is anyone really surprised?

We have some of the worst supporters by far after a loss. Time for some to have a good read through the AFL rulebook, I think.

I am surprised because i am a BF nooby and up till last night i have been really impressed by our supporters as a whole. You go onto other boards and often see all sort of BS threads talking up themselves and bagging the heck out of everyone else but our board seems laid back and level headed for the most part. That was until after last nights loss of course.

Those "Supporters" ringing up were probably the ones who were watching from the comfort of their living rooms.

no they were St Kilda fans who were abused, had alcohol, ice etc thrown at them down their end of the ground where their cheersquad sat (Asile 26ish).

one guy said majority of the culprits were 16-18yr old drunks who weren't interested in the footy and couldn't have cared less if they had been thrown out.

some were sitting up on Level 2 above their cheersquad throwing things down onto them.

This is the word from the various callers ringing in, nothing I have seen for myself.

Do I believe it? hmmmmm don't know but have seen it at other sporting events. Just hope they weren't wearing Essendon clothing and embarassing the clubs name.

WTF  You obviously haven't been to many games interstate.

I live in Adelaide and can assure you that there are 2 teams over here whose supporters are much much worse...

Anyone who's a good sport and gracious in defeat never wins anything.

My philosophy is if you're losing start a fight.

The game was already lost so what is the point in starting a fight?

BTW i think someone like Pat Rafter quashes your theory well and truly.

Cheers.

I agree 100% .
Saints tackled harder and held onto their tackles , they were in front of the man , first to the ball most times and hardly gave away free kicks .
The Bombers i hope learnt a good lesson from tonight.Above all that , the Saints were mentally tougher and were not scared to go and do the hard things to win .

I wasn't actually refering to you Ant. Whilst i thought a few of your critisisms were a little harsh i could see that some thought and insight went into them whicj i myself took on board and tried to see from your perspective. I was more refering to the stupid comments like Pev should never play another game for the club bla blah.

I need to clarify... if you are losing on the field you start a fight there or hurt the opposition any way possible.

No need to be aggressive off the field as a supporter.

For every Pat Rafter I can give you examples of 100's of champions that were sore losers - Lethal, Carey, Ali, Zidane

Who are you refering to? Everyone is entitled to an opinion this is a public forum but if you choose to start a thread about other posters perhaps you should provide examples. I cant see where anyone has said Pev should never play again for the club. IMO the younger players have overtaken him and I dont see him as having any impact in winning the club matches.

Pev shouldn't play again. We can't afford to have both him, JJ and Watson in the same team. Watson's miles ahead, and while JJ isn't as far ahead as Watson, he provides a much higher skill level and a lot more toughness than Pev. So at the moment, no, Pev shouldn't play again.

not just after a loss..

during the game, a group of (i reckon) 15/16 yo's (essendon supporters) were sitting behind the goals on level 2 behind the saints cheersquad and they were throwing stuff off the balcony thing and swearing all match.

and then at the end of the game some idiot sitting a couple of rows behind me, decided he would throw a half-full bottle of gatorade. not sure what he was aiming for, but luckily it didnt clock anyone in the head.

I don't condone any of this behavior but I reckon you'll see a lot more of it as people cannot tolerate that rules and umpiring anymore.

I posted the thread about the poor umpiring. I didnt blame the umpires for the loss. In fact I think the saints played very well and probably deserved to win, although any loss by a kick is unlucky. I agree that we were undisciplined and gave many frees away.

I was angry at what I thought was poor umpiring with many soft decisions going against us but few for us. I wanted to know whether it was just me or did other fans think we suffered some pretty ordinary decisions.

Obviously that sort of thread is unacceptable on BF. I certainly won't post another.
