One of the only things that disapointed me tonight was our massive behind total. We got away with it tonight but when the reall stuff starts it could cost us. I know it was raining but it seems to be an ongoing problem. So Frustrating. We shouldv'e buried them much earlier than we did.

It seemed to come from tired shots at goal, from mid-way through the 3rd quarter up untill the end of the game.

Set shots seemed pretty good to me.

Poor forward entry towards the end of the game meant a lot of players picking the ball up under pressure and blazing away at goal.

Young Myers was an offender, which you could put down to nerves.

As an issue, I don't think it's a big one. We kicked well from set shots and that should really be how you assess accuracy at goals.

You can't worry about these kind of things too much in February.

Good match kicking comes with match practice, and that was only our second competitive hit out.

If it's still an issue by mid-March, I;d be a little concerned. Until then, I'm expecting things to slowly fall into their place.

Not a big deal. Eearly in the year still. Can be very costly in games though, but we had Brisbane comfortably covered tonight. Im just thrilled with the Bombers game tonight. Nash and Dempsey off the half back line was excellent. McPhee was very quiet but it may have been due to his hamstring tightness. Likes Hille's game and Laycock did well too. Sorry, wrong thread for this talk:o

Most of our behinds came mid way through the third quarter when the sting was well and truely out of the game.
Our young blokes got a bit carried away going for the super goal instead of doing the team thing and looking for a leading target.

Nothing to be worried about yet.

That and our forward structure was pretty make-shift by that stage, with the loss of Gumby & I think CJ was off for most of the 2nd half as well

Exactly,
The young blokes were well within their rights to have a go at the 9 pointers but they missed.
I think the scoreboard looks a lot worse than it actually was.

Yeah. I found Hille and Laycock switching from ruck to forward very effective and hope we do it more often.:thumbsu:

I think you'll find that will be the norm in 2008. Both are pretty handy players to throw up forward, Laycock with his leap and Hille with his size.

If we can get them contributing 40+ goals between them it would be a successful move.

I think it was more to do with our players being tired and being a bit to fast with the ball. In the second half if a player was within 50 they would have a crack. Thats why we scored a hell of a lot of behinds in the second half!

We were 11 Goals 2 Behinds at Half Time. Second Half was where it came into place with the boys kicking 2 Goals and 14 Behinds.

We would of beaten them by 80...

Mcphee was also out of the game early with tightness, and he was supposed to be up forward too.

Not sure if this is the right thread but in the 4th quarter laycock was the only player from essendon on our side of centre - he was attended by 3 Brisbane players so when we did come out from defence the transition was slower than previously in the night (2nd qrt). Laycock got the ball to ground and then we either blazed away or they ran it out. The organised forward line of the 1st half had gone. I personally felt that this was deliberate. An attempt to develop the defensive flood - some training in game time! and it was done well
