Club History Port 150 documentary

Has distinct Sunderland Til I Die vibes, in terms of how it’s made and what it focuses on — which is a no-brainer given how popular that was.

Preferred the more historical doco from last year, but others will certainly love it.

I found the covid focused ending boring and the emphasis on the "almost" season a little embarrassing.

Would have been all for it had we won the flag, but I would have preferred they focused on what made it a brilliant documentary in the first half.

I enjoyed the first part and the focus on dads army (god bless them what a bunch of legends)

Really liked hearing about the different members we have and how they became a Port supporter.

Got flat and miserable when it turned towards the season. Felt horrible for the guy talking about how he’s imagined how the granny would play out.

Turned it off during the Never Tear us Apart pre game against Geelong as I knew how the movie was going to end.

Wasted year/opportunity really.

The club made the Onward to Victory doco that was shown at the start of 2020 on Ch 7 and had more of what we wanted to focus on. An outsider from 57 Films, director/producer Nicole Miller had her focus and so it was always going to be a bit different to what the club / fans would have focused on. Yes some footage was shared across the 2 films but they were 2 very different films.

The first half felt like All or Nothing: Man City. Talking about and backstroking in flags.

The 2nd half was All or Nothing: Tottenham. Bottling big opportunities.

Yeah agree. That last 30 minutes seemed to resemble those season review films we did. It started orbiting around Hinkley again. As the presenter had said prior to the film beginning, they decided to change focus because of how the season was unfolding.

At the start of the sequence where Koch and his wife are in their vehicle, they are clearly shown to be driving away from the club by turning left onto Port Road, but as things continue, they are then shown to be driving towards and into the club via Brougham Place and Queen Street.

Boy, I really hope someone got fired for that blunder.

It's alright. Felt a bit unfocused, like the scope was too large.

I think the historical stuff could have been much much briefer given the Onwards to Victory doco just came out too. Just focus the narrative on the season, follow a couple of supporters. There's probably too many voices, too many people.

Decent for a supporter, probably not much of a watch for neutrals.

Also, the greyscale kept reminding me of the opening scene of Casino Royale.

Not the best choice I thought.
She said she did that so it wasn’t switching back and forth with the old footage.

I said similar to you though, it’s a decent film, but only really if interest to a Port fan as there was little ‘meat’ to it.

A lovely thing to have in the vault though.

I thought they were leaving, saw Paul, waved and turned around to go back and see him.

Prior to the bit where they spot Pauly and turn left at the roundabout, they turn left onto Port Road, which looks like a continuation of the bit at the end of the sequence after they’ve chatted with Mr Vandenbergh.

Rather than focus on those finals of 2020, it would've been better to share that time delving into the people of the club that made us great over the eras, and those eras, being that this film was also intended for the neutrals. Just to reinforce to the neutrals that we are this traditional club with a long and rich history.

I was enjoying the greyscale because I thought they would transition to colour as the history went through to us entering the afl, then they just kept it greyscale was disappointed lol we over do the greyscale on a lot of our stuff.

They definitely chopped and screwed with that scene was bizarre.

Thought the doco wasn't too bad, would have rathered they just focus on the club, go a bit deeper into those successful periods, talk a bit about the champions of Australia and hear from a few more of the past legends and their stories.

listening to Russell's video was enthralling because he has tales for days, this is what I'm interested in, the untold stories of our past, following a failed season could have been an after thought in the background instead of the main attraction for act 2 of the doco.
