Despite having some of the most exciting youngsters in the AFL, it seems lack of discipline and poor guidance by Mark Williams will again be the undoing of this famous South Australian club, only a week after Brett Montgomery spat the dummy after a reported brawl with a teammate, the Port boys are at it again with fighting bouncers at a nightclub, Peter Burgoyne who has already been in trouble in the last 12 months with his buddy Adam Heuskes, was again at the centre of it with a reported black eye. Will this so called proud club again sweep this incident under the carpet or will the administration finally get tough and lay down the law. Just ask StKilda supporters how an undisciplined list can cost a team any hope. The culture needs to change and supporters claiming they are the greatest club ever perhaps better take note of offfield behaviour as well!

Dont take this the wrong way port fans but im afraid it sound like things are a little outa control,i'll say it again to me it sounds like your season is over before it even starts.

Yes. It does look like they are the club with the most internal strife = wooden spooners.

When Port came into the AFL I almost didn't bother going to the Hawks v Power game. But I was impressed by the spirit of the Port boys and had healthy respect for them.

But their abysmal showing in the 99 ansett cup GF and recent things seem to indicate things are wrong.

Wot 'appened ?

You guys must think this only happens at Port. Well sorry it happens at all the clubs. Also Bubba how can you put the blame on Williams he can't be held responsible for what happens after hours. Its up to the players to be more responsible when they are out in public. Also being such a young team we don't have many older players who can lead these younger players in the right direction, but if anybody thinks this incident is going to ruin Ports season, then you are in for a rude shock, because incidents like this only make the club stronger. Especially when Port thinks the whole world is against it.

You wouldn't be by any chance talking about Peter Vardy with that statement?.

Sorry Carb, cant blame Mark Williams specifically for the incident but somehow i dont think David Parkin or Kevin Sheedy would put up with that crap. You can kid yourself that it doesnt matter 'coz it happens at other clubs, but when it does happen at other clubs the wheels either fall off or someone strong enough within the administration jump on it and make a very strong statement that it is unacceptable. All im hearing from Port and their supporters is boys will be boys!

This season is a test of character for Port, I'm confident we will prove our true mettle when the games begin.

I have to agree with you BUBBALOUIS, Williams must take some responsibility for his players actions. If these allegations are true, then I hope Williams will show some strength and hand out fines or even suspend the players involved for a game or two.
I hope Williams will be strong enough to get his team through this mess.

I think teams play well when they have good club leaders. Port seems to be lacking these type of people in their squad - to take these young players under their wing so to speak.
Maybe because they are still a fairly new side to the AFL and will take some time, or maybe I'm wrong, the club just doesn't seem to have much of a direction in leadership

I bet none of you know the real story behind either the Montgomery incident, or this pub thing, so all you're doing is pontificating.

Competition for places in the starting line-up will be very fierce at Port this year, so there'll be plenty of able replacements for anyone who steps out of line.

It wouldn't surprise me if the pub thing came out of some dickhead (=Camrys follower) having a go at the Port boys. If so, good on 'em for sticking up for themselves.

The AFL is becoming such a squeaky clean nancy boy game where image is the only important thing. The real fans love a bit of rough stuff though!

Eddie McMillions must be green with envy at all the publicity Port's been getting the last few weeks

Ok, tell me about Vardy.

Also, Carb, as for being a young team, maybe this is the Coaching team's fault. Perhaps they should have recruited a couple of responsible older players to guide the youngsters. Obviously the Power chose to go "young" and must reap what they sewed. BTW Shane Bond was involved, and he's a married guy with two kids.

Grave Danger, I don't know the full details, but the guy on TAB radio this morning was actually there, and he said one of the players took some bottles of booze, and when another player was mistakenly blamed and asked to leave, all hell broke loose. Sorry, no Camry supporters involved. (But I guess all the bouncers could have been Crows supporters, lol, and the cops.)

Here's another eye witness report, which was sent to a Port mailing list:

hi everyone

I don't usually respond to things on this list, but with this topic I sort
of felt obliged to. I was there on Saturday night with some of the Port guys
who are in our circle of friends, and I saw the incident. I just thought I'd
say not to beleive everything in the media and what have you, because the
entire thing has been sensationalised to the extreme. Although I agree the
players have a responsibility to their club and you guys as supporters etc,
the incident has been grossly exagerated. There are two sides to every
story, and nobody has even speculated on the other party and their
behaviour. Contrary to what many would beleive, these guys (well, at least
the ones we're mates with and whose names have been thrown around in the
press) don't get their kicks out of causing trouble etc. etc. They're just
out to have fun like the next person, but have to deal with idiots who
enjoy stiring them up, critisicing them and basically making a scene. It's
really hard to have a good time when people who don't even know you are in
your face 24/7 and think that they have the right to speak their mind to
you, just because they know the footy club you play for or whatever.

That's all...I just wanted to stick up for my mates (which was all they were
doing) and ask you guys not to jump to conclusions and stuff like that after
only hearing stuff through the grape vine and media.

Thanks for your time everyone

Wasn't Peter Burgoyne the one named/involved in the Adam Heuskes trouble in Adelaide a few months ago?

Any wonder he is in trouble again?

NOPE.

Well, Burgoyne has been suspended by Port and some other players fined. So much for CLub discipline. As for the incident, Port players heading to that side of town are subject to all sorts of provocation by jealous thugs and AFL wannabees.
As for the other alleged incident with Burgoyne, there was no case to answer.
AS for Port's season being over, you wish.

Sorry Mud players from all clubs are subject to the same pressure when going out, its one of the prices you pay for being a 'celebrity' some handle it well others dont.
GD posting a letter by self confessed mates saying 'it wasnt our fault' doesnt have much credibility, im sure the bouncers mates would have a similar story.
Lastly, gee didnt PA come out strong in disciplining the players, Burgoyne who was in trouble not even 12 months prior is suspended from the first Ansett Cup match. I bet that hurt him
