Peter is the product of good Naracoorte stock. Knew him and his family well. I'm sure he only reacted to enormous provocation:p

Another football career ruined by injury.:(

Mr B was my grade 7 teacher and was a fair and good bloke. He wasn't as ruthless in his use of the yardstick as Beefy either. :p

Hey guys just wondering if the Port Magpies jumpers were available to purchase anywhere?
Always liked them and would love to add one to my collection. Cheers

I will go through and like 100 posts of anyone who can find a picture of Haydn Bunton Sr in a Port Adelaide guernsey from 1945.

Charles Hayter in discussion with Haydn Bunton Sr. in 1945. Hayter was Secretary of the Port Adelaide Football Club (1927-1948). During his 22 years as secretary the team played in 14 grand finals and won 5 premierships, missing the finals once in 1933.

Port Adelaide (1945)
After being discharged from army service at the end of World War II at the age of 33 he joined Port Adelaide and played 17 games during the 1945 SANFL season. Bunton would form a formidable duo with Bob Quinn helping Port Adelaide attract record crowds for the season. At the end of the minor round Port Adelaide had lost only two games finishing up with a percentage of 133. Bunton would play in the first final of his career with Port Adelaide in their second semi final win against Norwood in front of 36,383 spectators at Adelaide Oval. Bunton would kick 2 goals during the match. The win against Norwood in the second semi final qualified Port Adelaide for the 1945 SANFL Grand Final against West Torrens. During the first quarter of the 1945 SANFL Grand Final, Port Adelaide kicked a record quarter time score for a SANFL Grand Final of 8.1 (51). However this was not enough for Bunton to win his first premiership as a player with Port Adelaide falling short by 13 points to West Torrens. The 1945 SANFL Grand Final would be Haydn Bunton Sr's last match in senior football.

SgtSchulz your best chance of getting a photo of Hayden Bunto Snr would be;

1. Get a team photo from 1945. The club used to have posters of teams on that stand outside the Port store plus they have photos of every year throughout the Alan Scott HQ. Ask Ben or someone at the club if they can go check it out for you.

2. Find a copy of the 1945 annual report. According to these 2 links they are available in the State Library, but you will have to fill out a request form, they dig it for you and you have to read it in one of the allocated reading rooms and can't take it out of there but can copy it. See

and

3. Do a microfiche search of The Advertiser and The News for 1945 at the State Library and hope you see a pic of him.

But don't expect to see him in the wharf pylons/prison bar guernsey. According to Mero and his great website he will be wearing the collingwood style guernsey.

PORT ADELAIDE
Port Adelaide fields its own team in the SANFL

Coach Matthew Lokan

2017 The Port Adelaide Magpies made it all the way to the SANFL Grand Final before losing to arch rivals Sturt by one point.

System Port Adelaide can play as many AFL-listed players as it wants in the SANFL during the regular season. However, the Magpies must play five SANFL-contracted players (one of which is marquee player Steve Summerton) in the finals, meaning they can have a maximum of 16 AFL-listed players in the finals (in the SANFL, there are three players on the interchange bench, compared to four in the AFL). This caused issues last season when the Power had almost a full list to choose from, with a couple of AFL-listed players having to play in the SANFL Reserves.

History The Port Adelaide Football Club was established in 1870, and were one of eight inaugural clubs to form the South Australian Football Association in 1877. The Magpies have won 36 state-league premierships, making them one of the most successful clubs in the country. When Port entered the AFL in 1997, players were drafted to SANFL clubs when not in the AFL side. But in 2014, the Power had a stand-alone team playing under the Port Adelaide Magpies banner and wearing the club's traditional black and white guernseys. - Lee Gaskin

Here's a pic of me with Bob Oatey circa 1976. This pic was on the front page of the advertiser and was taken while attending a pre season footy clinic. Mum got me all dressed up in my Port gear. I was so excited. I was told Russel Ebert and Brian Cunningham would be there. I was seeething when I found out I was in a group to be coached by a *en Sturt boy!!!

Hahahaha... Good times.

Wonder if this pic had any names associated with it?
Was curious as to the player on the far right of the pic (close to the ump) may have been.

Funny to see the players in brimmed hats.:D:cool:
Against "NORTHS," it seems. What team would it be?
