I really shouldn't be staggered - but the sheer volume of self-important rubbish pouring out of Alberton is just mind-boggling.

These guys are talking themselves up, talking themselves down, respecting the opposition, confident against the opposition, and churning out puff pieces to the media on virtually an hourly basis.

Just a taste of the cr*p they're serving up this week

Cornes says he feels as relaxed as it is possible to be about a premiership confrontation with the front-running Cats.
"It'll certainly be playing on their minds. When we were struggling to win finals it certainly played on your mind," Cornes said.

"We believe if we're with any team at half-time, we've got the legs to be really competitive and run over the top of them in the last half, so that's something we're really basing our game on," he said.

And that's just what's been written since yesterday! Obviously it's grand final week - obviously there's going to be a lot of stories around but for christs sake, last week it was the pies, the week before the roos - when are they going to realise this mind game crap doesn't work on us?

Talk yourselves up boys, these 'mind games' sure worked for the Roos and the Pies...the real game begins on Saturday

Re: Port Adelaide - Media Wh*res

It's Grand Final week, of course there is going to be a media blitz. Why should you be worried about how much press they get? I just don't get it?

Re: Port Adelaide - Media Wh*res

Another thing that has impressed me with Geelong this year is how they don't come out and make bold claims. While Port and others are seeking media attention, we just go about winning games. Mark Thompson is perfect at saying just enough, and not saying anything that opposition teams can use against us. Tredrea bowing and Cornes dancing, along with Mark Williams' suggesting that we will choke, will just spur us on more. I hope now that we don't just win, but thrash Port by 80 points, to shut them up a bit.

I particularly love this quote from an article about comments from Kane Cornes

If three years of September failure weighed heavily on Port Adelaide minds in 2004, then 43 years of the same must be making life difficult for Geelong in the lead up to the grand final.
Just a small difference Kane, most of the 43 years had nothing to do with the current Geelong list, whereas most the Port list was responsible for Port's failures a few years ago.

Good try though.

To rehash what I put in the simpson quote thread on bay 13.

Football player: [being interviewed]
This team is fired up. We came here to play!
Homer: Aw right! [picks up the phone to place his bet]
Lisa: [scoffing] He'll lose.
Homer: What? Didn't you hear what he said?
Lisa: Look at the fear in his eyes, listen to the quiver in his voice.
[poetically] He's a little boy lost in a game of men.

I was slightly embarrassed to see in the Geelong Addy the fussed that was kicked up over Port's celebrating "Operation big heads" or something stupid. So Tredrea bowed to the crowd, he's a tool - we know that what's more he's done far worse and I didn't see a whole lot wrong about what Chad Cornes did - even though I despise him and his arrogance on the field. Mooney is a similar character - I'm certain I would hate if he played for another team.

Grand Final week, 2 teams left, what do you reckon the footy scribes would be focussed on?

All players are sought out by the journos, if they fart it's news, we've been in it before, we know the drill, what's said in the papers is just tomorrows fish & chips wrapping. What happens on the field on Saturday is all that counts, can hardly wait.

Go Power

Who cares? It's GF week, puff pieces are a dime a dozen. It really shouldn't make any difference what happens out on the field.

At least you're not stuck reading the Advertiser like some poor bastards over in Adelaide will be ;)

Love this stuff...

Can you imagine the pressure that will be building up with the high expectations they are placing on themselves?

Usually you see the team most under the pump coming out with this sort of rubbish, and the cats have already far exceeded my expectations this year and will IMHO continue to go about their business the way they have all year.

Focus on the ball and the game, nothing more, nothing less :D:thumbsu:
