Goddamnit sobrave

There are fourteen locks in this team, IMO, some of which also lock in a particular position which is also listed where applicable.

Tredrea (CHF)
Gray
Boak
Wanganeen
Chad Cornes (CHB)
Kane Cornes
Lade (1R)
Schulz (FF)
Wakelin (FB)
Peter Burgoyne
Wines (C)
Montgomery (HBF)
Wingard (HFF)
Westhoff

A handful of others that are pretty secure - Shaun Burgoyne, Michael Wilson, Tom Jonas, Brad Ebert.

Second ruck is a difficult one, as none of the possible Lade/Primus/Brogan combinations would work in the modern game (which is hard not to consider when doing this exercise). Primus probably doesn't work well coming off the bench, but probably slightly nudges Brogan on individual résumé, so he makes the team on paper. Patty Ryder is an honourable mention on the outside looking in.

Making the team

FB Jonas Wakelin Wilson
HB Monty Cornes .........
C Kornes Wines Westhoff
HF Gray Tredrea Wingard
FF Junior Schulz Wanganeen
1R Lade Boak Senior
Int Primus Ebert ...... .......

The last three positions would come from any of Dew, Kingsley, Pickett, Cassisi and Hartlett. With respect to those players, we really should have some players in the not-too-distant future that will likely unseat them. I expect that Karl Amon will find himself in this team before long, Aliir with another season or two at his current pace will be hard to omit, and you'd be disappointed/surprised if Butters does not carve out a career that has him in the 22.

For now:

FB Jonas Wakelin Wilson
HB Monty Cornes Cassisi
C Kornes Wines Westhoff
HF Gray Tredrea Wingard
FF Junior Schulz Wanganeen
1R Lade Boak Senior
Int Primus Ebert Francou Dew

EDIT: Francou mistakenly overlooked last time around - replaces Cassisi

EDIT: Reshuffle. Cassisi in for Kingsley. Not ideal positionally, but feel that Cassisi had a better career

identical to my team, give or take positional choices

Thank you to everyone who has helped with the input so far.

I think the few weaknesses in this team have been rectified with this year's additions.

Thoughts?

No Michael Wilson in defence, with Jonas and Byrne-Jones named ahead of him is an appalling oversight - are you ken hinkley?

as much as i rated wilson and at his best he was probably better than those 2, for me he missed too many games with injury this side of the century which i think robs him of a spot. If your criteria was more at their peak, i can understand.

but as an opposition supporter, i'm very glad you think i've nailed the other 22 spots!

Wakelin should stay in as starting FB. Whether Jonas or Aliir takes the pocket is debatable but i'd probably have Aliir. Aliir obviously has the AA guernsey and is a clearly better player but Jonas has some longevity, the captaincy and was part of some excellent defensive units. I think you could also make an argument for Jackson Trengove here, won a John Cahill medal as a key defender and played in those exciting 2013/14 teams.

I think Michael Wilson comes in pretty comfortably over DBJ on the half back flank. Had Wilson played in Victoria he'd have a much, much higher standing in the game.

I agree with Rozee and Butters in, despite their young age their resumes are already good enough.

Cassisi can probably be replaced with one of your outs, or someone else.
