Do you think this defensive midfield approach has something to do with the playing group and coaching staff's belief in Hudson as a ruckman? Do you think we may have gone with more aggressive tactics if Leuenberger was rucking?

LOL. I think we've overdone it. He is currently on 640. About 400 votes ahead of second place.

Maybe we shouldn't overdo it or they'll start eliminating duplicate votes :p

Either that or all the Supercoach fans in Australia are voting for him in gratitude.

Haha was thinking the same - to each of my votes the tally was rising x 5 so there are a few of us doing it - go Tink!

Can't help wondering this last week or so if maybe we have finally got the mix right for the team going into the future..

..which leads me to wonder what will happen when the others are ready to slip back in..eg..Staker, Lueuy, McGrath, Maguire etc...will it throw the balance again?...just a thought, although I guess its a good problem to have..

In saying that, as strong as he's been for us, Huddo is no Leuy in terms of ruck-work.

Does anyone have the stats on hitouts to advantage to support or refute this? My gut feel is that Huddo doesn't find his onballers all that often at centre bounces.

Not too mathematically brained so wouldn't know where to start. But yeah I'd agree with that. Huddo might win around the same, but Leuy's service to our mids seems much better. Probably reflected by the amount of clearances that Huddo has himself.

The weekly update on the Lions website said he was ninth IIRC. Leuy was 4th or 5th last year I think.

For argues sake, I think its fair to say a team is more successful when they dont rely entirely on their ruckman getting first hit to them.
Obviously its an advantage, but alot of teams have lost hitouts to the other teams ruckman by huge amounts, yet have still won the game in the end.

His stats to hit-outs to advantage (usually published in the Herald Sun paper version only) have generally been pretty good.

But I definitely agree - I doubt whether many of them occur in the centre.

Okay, am I the only one "Awwwwww"ing really badly at just about all of these Dads? Dads and their kids are so cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially when the Dad is really macho and suddenly turns into a huge softy around his kids. The more macho the guy, the cuter it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, so decided to watch the game tonight after mad Monday precedings.

It was all a little hazy, probably the rain rather than the beers.

Zorko - gee, what a pick up. was huge for us.

Raines was great in the wet, definitely underrated everywhere but Brisbane.

Polkinghorne was similar, I think today he showed the value of what a player he will be in the future. As we improve, Polks role will grow. I see him as being like Shane Edwards from Rihmond. Edwards was hated and Te whipping boy over the last 3 years, this year they love him. I hope Polks will be the same.

I think the reason for our improvement this year, has been the improvement in the players that are selected between 16 & 22 in our team, eg Green, Beams, Harwood etc. these guys have added so much to us. Anyone that says we haven't improved has rocks in their head.

We are rising, still probably 2 years away from finals, but the signs are there.

Browny must be right off the 'cuteness - Macho' scale then.

After watching this game back, I'm on the verge of thinking that Zorko is legitimately staking a claim as our most important player. His influence cannot be understated.

I tend to judge how good a player is by how many opposition best 22 he would force his way into in some position. In my eyes, we've currently got eight on our list who any other club would put in immediately. They are Rockliff, Redden, Rich, Brown, Black, Hanley, Leuy (although slightly debatable with a team like West Coast who already have two great rucks) and now Zorko. I can't think of a single club that wouldn't put him straight in their best 22.
