Yep, MG & JW have talent & a desire to be involved in the contest. Struggle to think of anyone else. We will badly miss a fit Rioli.

I also think we need to rotate JHF through the forward line & midfield. He understands how to play the position & attacks the ball as all good forwards do. A very good contested mark for his height too. And he has the required pace.
Pre 2025 Rioli was absolute class and could change a game, now we have Durdin.

I confess I'm impatient after hating the Hinkley era (except 2014 which was brilliant). All I'm looking for is a whole team buy in. Everyone working hard for their teammates & playing their role using their strengths. For example, Luko actually trying, players kicking distances within their capabilities, players that regularly turn the ball over by foot handballing instead. Playing smart football. Didn't see any of that.

And why are we giving away so many free kicks. It kills momentum. Rutten mentioned in an interview that players need to improve in this area. It was nice to hear the GM Football making the players publicly accountable for once. I sensed some frustration in the interview. It has been a long term problem at Port& has cost us many games.
We always have given away stupid free kicks.
It’s a Port trait that we can’t shake.

People coming around to us not playing finals maybe this year is a joke.
If we can’t get in the top 9 with the draw we have this group is even worse than I think they are.
Couple of nothing trail games and posters are starting to crack already.

Jesus our list is in a bad spot. Hinkley and co have left Carr with a big job to do. I feel by the time we get some young talent our better players may leave or won’t have many years left. We have too many below average players and most the team feels like depth players.
Gee whiz don’t tell me people are finally waking up.

100%. Aim for the moon and you'll reach the stars. I think we're less likely to make finals than not, but that's absolutely not what Josh Carr's messaging should be.
But the stars are further away than the moon

I'm expecting Carr to name and commit to a very youthful side R1 (and some vets not being in the 23) which would mean it'd be an incredible effort to make the finals.

Rioli definitely was in our top 3 most skilled players & is a huge loss. Haven't seen much of Durdin, & he will need some time to settle in, but he's not going to replace Rioli's class. 🫠

With the draw we have you could muster up a team from our forum that would finish at least 9th.
If we miss out with this draw it’s all down to the list no more excuses.

We're not cracking at all, I will be at every home game as usual. But I'm not expecting a quick turn around on attitude (disappointing) or game style (takes time) from what I've observed so far this season. There is nothing wrong with a poster stating it as they see it whether its negative or positive. I could lie I suppose to keep all posters happy.

And if anyone thinks its ok to give away the free kicks we do on a regular basis then they set very low standards.

You can't be serious? It's not saying much, but DBJ is one of our best set shots and I don't really recall him missing any easy crumbing goals of late.
He is probably out most accurate over the last few years. It's a strange take isn't it. Haters always gonna hate instead of just accepting players as they are. He'll never be a world beater but he is very solid up forward and rarely gets beaten in his position.

Its down to the inadequate development of the list over many years.
The team has been amongst the best in the home and away season under Hinkley.
The inability to step up a notch when finals come has been the problem.
It’s basically the same list that was one game from top spot in 2024 and we had a much harder draw in 24.
To not make the top 9 this year would be very disappointing to say the least.

How do people come up with this stuff?

Just checked. Of our current listed players, only Cochrane and Whitlock are more accurate. However, accuracy isn't something we should be judging DBJ on. He should be judged on how many he kicks because last year's total of 19 won't be enough for the team's most experienced small forward.

Saw a clip of Dante burying his knee into McAndrew's ribs at a last quarter centre bounce. Took the wind out of his sails. Should've done it in the first ;)

Just on Dante, it sounds like he is playing without confidence, which isn't unusual in young big men. He has the aggression in him, just needs to get it out and channel it into his football. Maybe ask Matty Primus to have a chat with him. he won't learn it from Lobbe.
Would luv to see Matty as ruck coach.

DBJ is in a unique position where some of his shots fall so far short, they dont count in the stats.

His kicks around the body go nowhere, and his 40m+ set shots just go to the pack in the goalsquare

Good points. I try to erase shitness like that from my memory banks.

If (not talking about talls) JHF, Powell-Pepper, Richards, Durdin and maybe 1 other were part of the forward line and outscoring DBJ that would then force me to say drop DBJ. But at the moment he’s a better goal kicker than all of them. So up to everyone else to get on his level.

Looks like you have more support than you expected. Yeah, wait and see will be the order of the day.

After the wait it would be nice if we suddenly came out and played a more attractive game plan where we moved the ball faster and with precision. Time to move on but under the previous Coach we played some sort of possession type football where we appeared to see how many possessions we could have when moving the ball from full back to inside our 50. I once counted eight possessions to move the ball from the kick in to the wing. Then of course there was our delivery into the forward 50 when bomb it in high in the hope that Big Charlie would mark it was the rule rather than the exception.

Obviously change needs to encompass more than simply the way we play as others have suggested we have to look at player conditioning and get some bulk and fitness into some of these younger guys. As the AFL no longer publishes player weight is hard to keep tabs on body condition and we have to rely on visuals. Have players like Visentini, Whitlock and Ramm bulked up over the summer?

I will give it time as you rightly suggest but I would like to see the shit game plan employed by the previous Coach consigned to the rubbish skip.
Totally agree, but the issue currently that Carr faces is that these players have been playing a rubbish gameplan for 10 years. And when there's a bit of pressure they default to the bomb it in gameplan. This will be a process and it'll take at least 1 season to sort out.

The 3 players you've mentioned definitely have bulked up. Fitness and conditioning wise there's definitely an improvement.

Noticed we really raised the tempo in the last quarter. Last year we'd have been out on our feet by then.
