Totally agree, but the issue currently that Carr faces is that these players have been playing a rubbish gameplan for 10 years. And when there's a bit of pressure they default to the bomb it in gameplan. This will be a process and it'll take at least 1 season to sort out.

The 3 players you've mentioned definitely have bulked up. Fitness and conditioning wise there's definitely an improvement.

Not just the gameplan but also the loser mindset. Hinkley would have been out there spruiking "one bad quarter", letting them off the hook and making that sort of fade out acceptable.

And our inability to flick players when they are no good

We seem to persist with plodders for far too long
You can add telling players to retire instead getting to the point where they couldn’t move. Also gave away a lot of good draft picks on players who couldn’t make the starting 18 at their previous clubs. Ridiculous.

We all wanted this as the hackles were removed.

Unfortunately though, this will take time.
I saw nothing to change my mind that we will have the lowest points for in the AFL in 2026.

I can deal with that though, if the attitude is right.
You know, that creed thing.

Call me crazy but I'd like to see a Rd1 forward line like this:
FF: Visentini Georgiades DBJ
HF: Richards Whitlock Berry

Anyone else needs to prove themselves in the 2's.

I know the first half was bad, but it'd be lying if I said we didn't improve and change things in the 2nd half. That has always been a problem under Ken. Like I said, under Carr, this'll be a marathon and not a race.

If I'm honest, I'm not expecting us to make finals this year. That's not to say we can't/won't, and I'm optimistic that we will. But the effects of Ken will continue to last through stages this year and to change it all is going to take time. Firstly Carr and co are changing the mentality of these guys to be winners. Then it's creating leaders and then it's about ironing out the gameplan. Based on how this season goes, I wouldn't be surprised if there are ruthless delisting/trading calls made end of the year.

In time there will be change because players will be replaced.
Hopefully they play better football when it counts ,when it comes to the business end of the season.

Why does DBJ cop so much shit on here. Works his arse off, kicks crucial goals, lays crucial tackles, great attitude and team player. Has won a best and fairest and has been an All Australian. He gets talked about like he is Jed McEntee.

And yet a lot of the posters that hate on dbj long for the return of a horribly unfit, overweight, poor attitude and an off field headache in Rioli.

Luke Webster talked about the adjustments they made at half time and how the players took them on. So it is good to hear that they can make changes and the players can implement them.

He said how they were happy with when the players brought the contest, they competed well, but they didn't bring the contest enough. That's mindset and they will work on that. And he didn't let them off the hook.

It was a good balance of being positive but acknowledging there is more to do. Not a shrug of the shoulders an Oh well, they tried for three quarters and just expect that to improve.

I think our pre season form often translates into the season proper.

I remember getting absolutely smoked by the suns in one of the trial games in 2022 and we started that year 0 and 5.

It’s okay to be concerned about yesterdays result but the result was about what I was expecting. Both sides were missing important players so it’s a difficult read.

Last year rozee had 40 and a goal

Finlayson had 28 and 13 marks in a pre
season match

Even lukocius had 2 goals from 15 disposals and 9 marks

Preseason form is very hit and miss for real season form

Rozee started the year well.

Luko got injured.

Finlayson was a typical flake that thrived when the pressure was at its lowest.

Apart from his first ever match, I can't remember him taking a game by the scruff of the neck and flipping the momentum. Having a Butters moment or a JHF moment. Which moments stand out for you?

Hate is not the right word btw, just meh.
I also feel like defensive forwards are a sign that you have already lost.

Every team uses defensive forwards because of how much impact in game is generated by half backs nowadays

Match winning goal against hawthorn 2024, a couple crucial goals in the semi final later that year, made a crucial tackle late in the last game against gc last year.

Just off the top of my head

He literally kicked a winning goal of a game with 2 seconds left on the clock once.

DBJ has had match winning moments for us. That Hawthorn goal with 7 seconds to go. The tackle on Oscar Adams (I think) in the dying moments of the farewell game for Boak against Suns. His first game as a small forward where he came on as a sub against Swans was also one where his cameo was important for us.

He doesn't do the flashy stuff but is largely consistent. If he could kick better, he'd be a very good small forward.

I'll respectfully disagree on your statement regarding defensive forwards. The modern game needs a balance of both defensive forwards and also ones that can create and do magical things (like the Rioli, Pickett types).

Our issue is we don't have one now after Rioli retired. If DBJ was playing a tagging role on an opposition defender every game, then I'd agree with your statement, but that isn't the case.

You asked the question and I gave my honest answer, that's all I can do.
For whatever reason, the only DBJ game that stands out for me was his first.

But I understand he is pretty much the only senior player up forward at the moment and has a leadership role.
To quote a term I hate, he just isn't "box office".
I'd pick a Stephenson over a DBJ every time.

It's like saying, what are your top 5 Kane Cornes moments.
I can't think of a single one.

He used the word ‘learnings’ about 10 times in the interview so that has turned me right off him.

Unfortunately it's a modern buzzword. It's sad that Hinkley learningsed it 😜 But unlike Hinkley, Webster explained some of their thinking. Learnings wasn't an end in itself.
