Hawthorn are a fake top 2 team. They have been favoured by their easy draw.

Against 2024 Bottom 10 sides they are 6-0 and now will be 2-2 against 2024 Top 8 sides.

I was a bit generous to the Hawks. They are 7-0 against the 2024 Bottom 10 sides and 1-2 against 2024 Top 8 sides.

Re 2025 sides they are 3-1 against top 8 sides, wins against Brisbane, Carlton and St Kilda and lost to Adelaide. The bold sides were top 8 in 2024.

A simple equation to make finals.

WCE win both their remaining games, (v Syd & Carlton)
GWS beat Carlton
Crows beat the Dockers.
Port beat Adelaide, and thrash GWS by about 10 goals.

Would come down to percentage, but we could sneak in, if that happened. Very Unlikely.

Theres other variations, but this is the most probable.

What a massive score and win. I've been a bit busy lately so have missed a fair bit of this season but it really looks like a season where if we hadn't been royally rogered by the umpires in a couple of earlier games we could have made a serious finals assault. As it is it will take a lot of luck.

So we got to play ALL of the top 7 in our 12 games, and only 5 of the bottom 11 sides.

Not bitching as I think its an opportunity, you need to be able to beat the best, but it does put the season in to perspective when considering the future. We've had the worst umpiring and the worst draw of any side yet still sit mid-table.

And were scuppered by injury before the season even began. Plus working Lauren Young into the side after 2 years out (super talent that she is, she still needs to find touch at the highest level).

But yeah, tell us again how great Hawthorn's season has been.

I personally don’t take a lot of notice in the AFFLW but just looking at the numbers I’d say we’d have a + number on the free kick count this year or very close to it.
I’d expect an easier draw next year and playing finals.
The draw in this comp can make a massive difference.

Yep and I think you have to embrace that as a chance to hone against the top sides, but playing all top 7 teams with 12 games is really quite crazy.

The FK differential is quite flawed though - from my knowledge there are two games that umpires have cost us, and none where they have got us across the line. That's what really counts. Whether we win or lose the FK count in games decided by 10 goals don't really matter.

Again I'm not saying this to have a whine, but more just to put our ladder position in perspective. We probably aren't good enough to challenge the genuine contenders like norf, but there is nothing really between us and a lot of the top 8 if we can have a better run.

Out of the teams that made the 8, we had one of the harder draws playing the most fellow finalists, but teams like Melbourne that just missed out played many more finalists than us.

The difference between two home finals and a double chance, and straight in to a knockout could easily be based on which teams you match up with. Not many serious competitions around the world wouldn't have each club play each other at least once. Not sure the best way to solve it but it should really be a 17 round season, not 12.

I’ve thought from day one the 12 rounds is a ridiculous idea.

How though, that doesn't add up to me.
Especially when they are leaving out sponsorship and government money.

The salary cap is 'only' 36 million for ALL teams combined. Say another million per team for salaries, that $54 million. So they are saying that all the sundries like travel and grounds (that already function) cost $50 million for 12 games? As much as everybody's salary combined?

Bet they are including the administrators of the AFL's salary costs as part of it because those ****s are soooo essential.

The bright side is that next season we will have 3 ‘recruits’ in Julia Teakle, Piper Window and Caitlin Wendland, as well as a fully match-fit Lauren Young.

I think we've been inconsistent - our best has been very good, our worst has been very ordinary - but we needed to be excellent with the draw we've had if we even wanted to qualify for finals.

Beating Melb and Hawthorn has been very good. Really taking advantage of the home ground.

Coughing up comfortable leads against WCE and Stk really disappointing.

Losing to Fremantle and Geelong at home have been the real killers though. 13th and 10th both lost at home. Freo was disappointing, but round 1 so forgiveable, the Geelong loss thanks to the umps was back breaking. To be fair we were tracking towards losing that regardless though.
