has Toumpas turned the corner?
I didn't get to last weeks game so with that qualifier, Jimmi got plenty of touches today.
There is no one attribute of his game that stands out and imo would struggle with the speed and intensity of AFL.
This opinion is subjective and based on not watching him very closely. Don't know who he'd replace or what position would suit him.

He is a ruckman from the 1960's named Bob Philp.

Was lucky enough to chat with Philpy at the club once. Tells footy anecdotes very well. :D

Oh yeah, Norther!!!

Our AFL boys were better than their SANFL men...

Port Adelaide shows its strength against reigning SANFL premiers

THE numbers don’t lie.

When a SANFL team fields 20 AFL-listed players it is generally a class above its rivals.

And so it proved at Alberton Oval on Sunday.

The Port Adelaide Magpies, whose only SANFL-contracted player was 200-game star Steven Summerton, made premier Sturt look second-rate, winning by 10 goals to put a major dent in its premiership defence.

In a classic case of men versus boys, this game was all over in the blink of an eye.

Port kicked the first 10 goals – the injury-hit Double Blues took until 15 minutes into the second quarter to kick their first major - and by half-time led by 71 points.

Sturt dug deep to win the second half by 11 points but it was no match for a far superior outfit when the game was up for grabs, leaving its premiership defence in tatters.

accidentally on purpose clumsy? Maybe it's just me but my take on the article
is re-inforced by what I saw as shameless dog whistling. Summo's photo as an 'up yours' and 'our' Benjamin tackled by a black man.
Anyone would think the Editor was a Sturt supporter and Capel a lackey with an agenda to push and thereby please his boss.
Then again it might be what Adelaide is Now with a Nazi reference the only glaring omission. Am I jumping at shadows?

When Paul Northeast was having the opening goal shot last Saturday there was a split second I thought, "he's going to kick the turf" but of course the ball was perfectly struck. That action should be patented!

There have been times when Ollie was threatening to challenge the patent 'til he did some work on his action.

Bottom placed Sturt lose to Glenelg by 10 goals and nobody cares.

A top 2 side in us beat a bottom side by the same margin and it's all "men vs boys farken AFL players waaaahhh!".

It should read umpire assisted double blues gifted a goal 15 mins into the 2nd quarter.

The Maggie's forward line was often as crammed as Rundle Mall on a Saturday morning yesterday, and it appeared to me to be as much to do with the way they set up, as it had to do with the blue bagger's defensive tactics.

Lobbe and his opponent were standing within a few metres of Brett Eddy for most of the first qtr, and the latter had to regularly jump 3 and 4 deep to get anywhere near the ball, and got 2 of his first 3 goals from his forward nous as opposed to being given any space to lead into.

If the rock lobster was going against team rules and clogging up space, you would expect the runner would be despatched to tell him to f*** off out of there!

Sure is. And see how effortlessly he's leaving a Magarey Medallist (and former Port Adelaide SANFL player) struggling to even get near the ball. Alas the poor reigning premiers could field only one former AFL player.

Tim Evans used to save the runner the trouble of delivering that message. ;)

And while on the subject of old Port boys, good to see Ah Chee channelling his inner Bobby Whatman. :p

Yeah most of the old time full forwards didn't hold back re demanding space to work in, maybe Breddy isn't confident enough at this stage to do it.

Well spotted re Arch tucking the ball under one arm Whatman ( rugby style ), and charging away. :)
I remember that clearance, he took the ball from the centre bounce down to inside the 50, but unfortunately fluffed the kick a tad.

He did a couple of similar clearances in the first qtr against the chooks last week, but didn't carry the ball quite as far.

There will be a few guys anxiously checking their passport status. Ah Chee has had a big opening month.

To RossFC and others who get along to most or all SANFL games: has Toumpas turned the corner? He's been getting a ton of the ball in the past few weeks. Is his decision making improving to the point where he may deserve an AFL call up soon?
He did perfectly well as a defender yesterday but we've seen him play quite a few good games in the SANFL over the past two years. There was no magical moment from him in yesterday's game that would have him rattling around the brains of the AFL team's selection committee.
