In the AFL this is what Port Powers heritage looks like, they should be proud of it. Shows where they are at desperately trying to allign themselves with a lower league. No one cares about SANFL trophies and the only person trying to tear them apart is Kochie.

You had players like Roger James and Josh Francou as well as your only premiership coach being against wearing it - they saw Port Power as a different club to Port Magpies. How do you reckon they feel about it all?

They don't know who they are one minute, Port Magpies, then Port Power, nearly changed name to Southern Power because they cared about their heritage so much.

I don't understand the argument of the showdown being a "heritage" game. The Adelaide Football Club has no heritage with the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club. They are not a SANFL club, nor Norwood. The crows only have a history with the Port Power, a club with Teal in its colours. Port wanting to wear the Pylons Guernsey (why is their president calling it the prison bars?) in showdowns is attempting to steal the limelight and big note themselves. There's no heritage about it.

Port attempting to steal the heritage of a completely seperate entity (the Port Magpies Football Club) over the past 10 years has been a disgrace.
They joined the league as the Port Power. The Port Magpies continued in the SANFL and the power elected to leave all that behind to join the league. All this rewriting of history is being done to steal history for profit and to create this "us against the world" mentality and "woe is us" to financially benefit.

Collingwood and the AFL (who have funded their existence) have been quite generous in the past giving in to Ports demands when they didn't have to.
If anything the pies should sue the Power for not sticking to their 2007 agreement and financially benefitting from the sale of the Guernsey.

Because they were entering a league that had a side (Collingwood) with Black and White stripes and a Magpie logo. So of course they had to find an alternative.
It got messy which is why the Magpie identity club was created for the SANFL but this was because the SANFL imposed laws on who could play for the Magpie team left in the SANFL.
Either way and no matter how messy it got for numbers of reasons the PAFC that played in the SANFL in 1996 was the club which entered the AFL as the PAFC Power in 1997.
I honestly thought this was very common knowledge.

You haven't even attempted to construct an argument as to why bigger leagues like the NBA, NFL, NHL and EPL ,and smaller leagues like the A-League aren't affected by two sides wearing the same colours, but Collingwood will be affected by it.

You've talked about different markets requiring different things but you are dodging hard to avoid saying why the AFL is a different market for sports branding.

No it is their jumper and one they should be very proud of as it was a big part of the journey to where they are now. By entering the AFL as the game went national they agreed to not wear it and thats where it currently stands. It is very much their jumper however, moving leagues doesn't mean losing your history and traditions.

This issue was likely resolved in 1985 when the clubs transferred their logos/names etc to the AFL. It is highly likely one of the conditions for assigning those rights to the VFL/AFL would be that no new team would be able to use those names/basic colours/jumper designs without the express written permission of the existing club. Even though they are obviously different jumpers, it is also pretty obvious that they share the same basic designs. If the AFL breach that agreement by allowing another team to do so (and to be fair to the AFL they don’t appear likely to do so), they would either have to cut Collingwood a very large check to compensate them, or risk the competition ceasing to exist as the one thing binding the clubs all together would no longer be in effect.

Given Port’s bastardry towards the SANFL in 1990 (vote with rest of SANFL to delay AFL bid until 1993, then submit their own bid a month or two later), the other AFL clubs should be weary of their history of looking out for themselves at the expense of their partner clubs. At least in this situation they are far more a junior partner in the AFL compared to their status in the SANFL in 1990. Realistically they would be either last or 2nd last in terms of influence in/around the AFL (ahead of only whoever the weakest Melbourne club is in any given year). I would think it’s more likely that the other 17 clubs vote to expel Port from the League instead of Port getting their way

power supporters need to thank Eddie and Collingwood for allowing them to wear the prison bars for the Port magpies 150th celebrations last year, be grateful this was able to be celebrated in such a fashion and move on..

pushing the point any further will probably see Collingwood and the AFL dig their heels in even further and could end up with Collingwood rightfully taking legal action against Port power for breaking their long standing agreement.

Post 2007 the AFL has gone on an expansion program, added GWS and GC. What would GWS/GC do for the "heritage" round?

Most clubs have gone with a random throwback that had laces, slightly different designs or colours etc. The goal umpires bought back the long coats etc. The shtick had been done, gimmick over and became meh.

Agree there, but they should be able to sell it in their merchandise shop, as it is their history they should be able to do as they please with it. Just can't wear it actually in a game in the AFL comp as per what they agreed.
