We have to win our footy matches, that is a non-negotiable.

However to do that we must also win the financial battles before us in the current economic world we now live in.

What would our team look like if we didn't have the money to invest in coaching staff, development people, welfare guys, recruiting gurus, physical & health specialists. Then add that to the ability to provide the infrastructure to attain and grow to peak performance, reaching and even exceeding potential.

Today's professional AFL teams, and even the franchises, have to become best practice outfits in all areas of endeavour to get to that holy grail, the Premiership Cup.

I'm more worried about Football department spend and investing in the future. Both of these things are so far ahead of the dark times, I am happy.

Kochie should bloody read how Sydney make their profit announcement, up front the bottom line but quickly say what it would have been without depreciation like a few clubs in the AFL like to spin things as the pre deprecation figure is their "operating result."

Sydney Swans Limited has reported a net profit of $53,224 for the year ending 31 October 2016 – profit before depreciation was almost $800,000. Net assets were $2,085,819.....

Maybe the question should be asked at the AGM as to what our "pre-depreciation" profit was...

While we're at it, let's ditch the term "profit." we're a non profit, the correct term is 'surplus'.

Accounting standards call it a profit so thats what it is. The corporations act ie the law calls it a profit - remember we are the PAFC Limited.

Lets not get into some sort of political correctness spin here.

when i first studied accounting I'm pretty sure we referred to the bottom line for anonprofit a surplus or deficit. profit is a meanigless term for us. with for -profits, profit is always the goal. not so for a nfp. we have no shareholders to distribute them to. this isn't about political correctness, it's about meaningful language. profits increase owner's equity which we don't have. the bigger point being our profit/ surplus should not be as big a deal to the media as it is. the term loss still makes sense as it is a decrease in net assets.

I drove past West Lakes for what I think is the first time since we stopped playing football at that cesspit. Incredible that professional sport was once played at such a dump.
Everytime i drive past that place my anger for the franchise and the SANFL increases greatly. Been to a few stadiums in the world and it's easily the worst. Thank god for AO.

Noticed that Wookie has provided his updated summary of all clubs finances this week. The various rankings make for interesting reading and give us a sense of where we sit within the competition.

For those interested, here's his post.
