Review Port defeat Carlton - Rd 5, 2021

It sucks to have so many injuries, but the silver lining is that it's still the early stages of the season. We get to expose reserve players to AFL footy and are likely to have our first choice guys back at the point end of the season. It's almost a good thing for us.
If these injuries can allow good game time to Bergman, Drew, Jones and even Mead, then it will hold us in very good stead.

We will handle this little injury crisis because for the first time in as long as i can remember we have good systems in place. Players like Bergman, Drew, Jones, Mayes, even Woodcock, slotted in like seasoned team members who all knew their roles. That is why we will be ok.
Amazing what happens when you don't * with your structure and game style every single week.

Lachie Jones for rising star.

Absolute beast

He's one of those players I would pay to watch play. And he's a half back flanker!

His attack on the ball, athleticism and composure in the heat of battle is drool-worthy. And that long bomb on the run is star quality.

He's the David Fifita of AFL.

Yep, agree totally. I'm not too worried. Recruiting has been top notch for years now, and at some point in the 2020 preseason a switch flicked in Ken Hinkley's head and we're now suddenly a system team and we stick to our structure first and foremost.

Around the time he got some very strong personalities around him in the coaches box.

I think we’ve finally got the players to play the system. That helps too. Hard to play talls and to a structure if the players aren’t up to it.

It’s good to see players able to do multiple rolls. We can switch them among the lines, being deceptive on what we are doing, creating confusion, and exploring match-ups; all while preserving our structure.

We need smart and talented players to pull this off. We might have them now.

Of course, having specialists help. Could we do that without Allir, for instance? He seems to be our anchor, doesn’t he? The amount of ground he covers is stupid. His velocity is absurd. He seems to know all the shortcuts, which enables him to be on the ball almost every time. It makes hard to lose composure.

On the other side of the field, the talls rotate. It doesn’t matter who is the target. There’s going to be at least one. Finally, we can use Dixon as a decoy and still have height I50.

So, it’s not that we’ve changed the way we play, IMHO. We are simply playing it better now.

Or what Long live PAFC just said in fewer words.

Everyone's signing Lachie Jones's praises while I thought he actually had a bit of a dirty night. Probably I just have a hyper-critical microscope on him and notice the mistakes because he's so awesome.
