People going wayyy too early on the Chad is a bust narrative. He's three games in. Even if he stinks up the whole season, we won't know the outcome of the trade long term.
Traded players often take a while to find their role and learn the structures at their new club. We saw it quite clearly with Rockliff last year, and even Paddy Ryder didn't deliver fully in year one as we learnt the hard way what worked and what didn't in terms of having him in our mix.
In fact, I'm fairly sure S. Burgoyne had a relatively anonymous first season or two with the Hawks. It's one of the things that clubs should consider when trading in players, especially older ones. Wingard, however, has plenty of time on his side, and unless the fanciful predictions of him returning to SA or walking away from the game in 2 years come true, I won't be getting all satisfied that we finally got one back over Hawthorn.
All we can do is be content with our side of the bargain (which is looking good so far) and hopefully enjoy the talent of Wingard as neutral supporters once he gets going.
