I can’t believe the club didn’t go nuts at that.

Hey, let’s just apply a populist and subjective assumption from a bygone era to the new era at a brand new central stadium!

How hard would it have been to ask Adelaide Oval members to tick a box, or given they have access to all 22 games, why not double-count them?
Given they have all ticketing info, they could even just see who turns up to all games (split 50-50) or who turns up to mostly Port or Crows and assigns them to the respective club. Of course as always in the (invariably Crows/SMA initiated) dick measuring contest the 10-20% of AFL football fans in this state that don't follow either SA side don't exist. Some of those AO members get to AO games to watch footy, even not their own side usually, just as MCC, Medallion club etc. in Melbourne do at the MCG and Marvel, but the SMA is 'Unless you sign this in triplicate, with the blood of your first born child, whilst signing the Port song and affidavits from seven people that you support Port, then you're going in the Crows count'.

lol - I assume they've already been told that's how they'll get their 'priority' pick this year
Otherwise known as the Frawley / Motlop rule. Like priority picks and precedence not allowed at the Tribunal, the AFL likes to be able to pick the end point then work backwards from there.

As an AO football member I can confirm that every year when I renew my membership I select PAFC as the AFL team I support. The SMA knows the true split. The fact that they continue to use a figure plucked out of thin air indicates that the true split is not as favourable to the Camry Crows.

As for double counting, some years ago the SMA increased the price of football memberships by $100 with the justification being that $50 would go to each SA club to satisfy the AFL's membership requirements so that all AO football members would be officially counted as members of both clubs. That was clearly just another SMA outright lie.

Colin Sylvia another.

End of 1st Round compensation for a 10-year veteran who never managed 20 games in a single season, and whose sole accolade was his Rising Star nom.

Roosy and his 2-win Dees were able to trade it for Bernie Vince.

I'm sure none of us are going to be surprised to see Brad Crouch top 3, as a minimum, in Adelaide's best and fairest this year. Even though most Adelaide fans wouldn't rate him top 10 so far this season.

As soon as pick 19 for Motlop was announced I would've put my house on it being somehow worked into the Ablett trade which was stalling at the time. And so it came to be.

If you paid for premium seating rights to all 11 home games of a football club in a 2-team town you’re a member of that club. The SMA isn’t the MCC. And we would certainly sell those premium seats if given the opportunity.

The 72/28 split is the biggest load of bullshit since the AAMI stadium redevelopment plan.

“When it comes to psychological harm it appears on the surface we haven’t had due diligence here, we haven’t had a duty of care for these workers in the workplace. The trauma that’s clearly been suffered by some because of subjecting them to what you can only call quite bizarre and unqualified supposed professionals… who let these quacks near these players? And why should these players have their workplace made so unsafe for them and then no appropriate standards in the AFL to provide protection?

“It seems extraordinary…

They won't. Apart from the fact he's not worth anything near what he thinks he is, Gold Coast will need all the salary cap space to retain their young talent.

The only hope the Crows have got I think as Tribey pointed out earlier is for somebody like Norf, who can't ever seem to land top end talent, pay massive overs for him because they are the only suitors because they are a sh*t can club.
But would Norf need Crouch, they already have Cunnington and Ziebell. Surely they would be after pace through the middle.

Now they've made their money.

Pull up the drawbridge!!
That and 16 v 16 is going to be less tackling / contested clearances etc. More money for shorter quarters with less physical contact. Everything coming up Milhouse from their point of view.

They trying to kill off 2nd rucks for good?

Two rucks on field is as good as dead anyway.. I still think with 6 on the bench you would need two rucks in the squad. It might actually open up a bit more opportunity have a second genuine ruck in the 22.

FWIW I am advocate for 16 v 16 [6 on each bench - no cap on rotations], primary reasons being:

- depth of talent in league is low [fewer spuds will be on field]
- congestion is too high
- injury rate is too high
- more genuine one on one contests
- not enough bags of goals being kicked by individuals [the game needs this]
- will be easier at all levels, particularly junior, to field a team

Yeah I like the idea of 16v16 with 6on the bench.

36 men on the one field is kinda nuts, exacerbated by pretty much everyone being a pathological running machine.

Wasn’t as much of a factor when there were a handful of beep test freaks. Now there’s hundreds.

How dumb is it. Why wouldn't you just allow the member to decide where the money goes?

Apart from the obvious dick measuring contest, are there any advantages / disadvantages financially to over / under reporting crowd numbers ?

The $2.40/attendee component at the stadium deal for the 2 clubs. Not sure if this is still valid in 2020.

That boofhead CEO Andrew Daniels said last night on the news said the difference was double counting of corporates and counting of staff - "which we never do" - despite the fact they did it in 2014 they did do that and only was picked up after the EF against Richmond and AFL reconciled $$ to tickets and attendance and they discovered the staff counting discrepancy and SMA continued on doing it in 2015 until the AFL said stop it by about round 10.

Given Port have 3,000 corporate tickets for Saturday night, and the difference in crowd was 18,1xx and 13,7xx then that means about 1,400 were counted over the double counting of corporates.

I get maybe 200-300 SA health staff, cops and security were there to observe spacial distancing, lining up etc, but come on, 1,200 staff is more than what is used if its absolutely jammed packed. The crowd adjustments in 2015 for staff were between 750 and 950 when the audited crowds for those first 10 games, 8 were 43k+ and a 40k and 38k crowd.

You can't assume that. Not everyone will tick the club support box.

Does it stop you progressing if you don't fill it out??

AFL has about 58,000 members. Only about 49,000 ticket a club support box which sees the AFL pay an amount of the $700 membership fee for every box ticked for an AFL Members Club Support category. They keep the full amount for those 9,000 who don't tick a box.
