Crows and the libs, a match made in hell

I literally cannot think of a person who sums up Crows/SA establishment/pissantery/boys club more than John Olsen. They could not have summed it up more perfectly.

As tacky and cringe worthy as they sound, those G'day USA type events seem to have been widely successful. Olsen, for all his skuldugfery is no fool. I wouldn't be so dismissive of him. As I said earlier, he became National President of the Liberal Party a couple of months ago, his connections are vast and powerful.

I don't think people are dismissive of his ability to get things done. But Hitler had that ability too.

I'm pretty sure I've suggested Olsen as their next chairman as a joke in the past. That club truly is a parody of itself.

They were talking about developing the area just to the south of Park 9 where the arrow is pointing (which is PAC Old Scholars) and the University Oval just to the south west of that oval. That area in between is where the ACC has a large gardening and maintenance area in there. Seems like a stupid spot to me, and you'd still have all the Parkland lunatics objecting to it, but that is where they were looking at at one stage.

That would be the worst spot, hope that's where they go :).

Of course one of the SANFL clubs Olsen is airbrushing from the Crows history is Port Adelaide. The Club that gave them their two-time Norm Smith medallist.
I don't see why people are complaining about this.

I for one am more than happy to be airbrushed out of the Crows history as far as contributing to their development goes.

So long as we are still recognized as being the driving force that caused the creation of the Crows.

Full credit to the Crows supporters over on their thread on this, they generally hate this appointment and see it for what it is.

It's a worry that the fans are finally catching on, but it looks like the club are still well and truly in establishment jobs for the boys mode.
It'll all be forgiven and forgotten by them if he get them to the CBD, we all know that!

I don't think anyone is underestimating Olsen, he will do exactly what he's been hired for. A dodgy deal to get a Parklands property.

They're just looking for any public land near Adelaide Oval that they can get for free.

They should look at the area in the West Parklands south of Sir Donald Bradman Drive. It is a location that would resonate with their customer base.

Well, Olsen does know where the bodies are buried...

New Crows HQ?

The West End Brewery, on whose Port Road chimney the SANFL premiership team’s colours are decked each year in a quintessentially South Australian tradition, will close next June, with statement from LionCo – a subsidiary of Japan’s Kirin – declaring the news “a sad day for the West End team, Lion and South Australia”. A spokeswoman told InDaily 94 local jobs will be “impacted”, although around 40 SA roles in sales and sponsorship will be retained. SA-brewed West End Draught and Southwark will “still be part of Lion’s portfolio”, but will no longer be made in SA.

What you have highlighted is Park 9.

Before December 2018, supposedly before the aquatics centre, they looked at the area behind Park 10 that is the council's plant nursery and green waste recycling and mulch centre. Its south east of Park 10 ie where Adelaide Uni minor grades play footy and cricket and opposite side of the Torrens to the Zoo. I wrote about it in December last year at the following post and included the link to the 'Tsier article dated 5 December 2018, but below is an aerial shot of the council's nursery and green waste site.

That site would probably be zoned industrial so they might have to get zoning changed.
I also can't see Lion Nathan giving it away.

Too small a site for a HQ + Oval, but plenty of room for a HQ and get the council to do up the parklands oval on the other side of Port Road ie Park 27.

But will be expensive as have to buy factories, building and some plant and equipment (not all) and likely to be sold as one package not split up by Lion.

I have no issues with the crows having a CBD HQ (after all, they are Adelaide, we are Port Adelaide), provided that:

- their base isn't at Adelaide Oval, as the venue needs to remain neutral.
- they don't get additional access to Adelaide Oval
- they pay for it out of their own pocket OR, if public funds are required, Port receives an equivalent amount of funding to be used to re-develop Alberton.

Oval across the road with the state government to build a tunnel linking the new John Olsen Community Hub with Bonython Park.

haha, are you serious?
Just preempting the SA media's reporting :)

I was hoping that "iconic South Australian company West End Brewing." may have given a clue to it's authenticity but I realise now that with the standard of the media in this state that was not going to cut it.
