Yeah I think they made the best of a shit sandwich there- pulled out a brave move in response to a forced exit. A lesser club would have balked at the idea of putting a 19yo on $1million a year and accepted the high draft picks on offer.
According to Peter Gordon on Open Mike, his personal chequebook basically underwrote the deal. Handy.

Just watching the news and seeing the Bulldogs and all their supporters celebrating........ SOOOOO JEALOUS!

An alternate reality where the pre-finals bye is introduced in 2014 and we benefit massively from the momentum of Richmond+Freo finals like Scray did and we win a flag.

Not even last year's push to finals was enough to bring them out. At least they GOB'd this year - bolstered by all those games against fellow Melbourne clubs - when making the eight seemed more of a sure bet and that's the main thing.

Shit i'd have just taken 23-13 frees in an away PF decided by a kick.

And if Buddy could've rolled his ankle early and Jonas could've legally destroyed Hannebery's knee with the game in the balance the following week, that would've been tops too.

**** that is a sad looking top 10 draft group. Lots of players who haven't made it and many because of injuries. Rohan is the only one who has had real success and he was lucky given his broken leg to not join the career savaged by injury club. Edit that should have read club success for Rohan. Martin and Cunnington have had successful playing careers.
Sheppard's had a couple of outstanding years. Good footballer.

And a bit disingenous to leave out Scully who will be a 250+ game winger who carved it up this year.

Our change in fortunes have been staggering :(

Two years ago, we're one kick away from a Grand Final and touted as the next big thing. Meanwhile they lose their coach and captain and look absolutely screwed.

Fast forward to today... :(

We have a group of players who were just happy to be there.

They have a group of players who were determined to make history.

Our players can no longer cope when things aren't going their way either. You can see the collective dropping of heads when a few decisions go against us or the opposition kick a couple in a row.

Those particular culprits all have Williams/Primus-era baggage, too.

The stars aligned for them there. A disgruntled wantaway captain whose best days were behind him, for a young powerhouse you could build around for a decade.

Had we lost a younger Boak to Geelong we'd have no doubt been compensated with a stale sandwich with surprise mold underneath.
The difference was that both Griffen and Boyd wanted out, had Boak gone to Geelong we would have got what they were prepared to give us. Although we could have gone up to their first rounder, which would have been high anyway, any players would just have been second 22.

Did the game being in Melbourne stop Sydney fans going? No
When we played Brisbane 12 years ago did it stop the two interstate clubs fans going? No
The fact it's in Melbourne is irrelevant. It's a grand final and both clubs regardless of where they are based are given the same ticket allocations and opportunities.

The MCG is our biggest stadium and rightly so hosts the Grand Final.

In the last 27 years since 1990, 11 flags have gone to non Victorian clubs and interstate clubs have been involved in 6 other grand finals. Interstate clubs have been there on that last day more than they haven't.

5 hawthorn
3 Geelong
3 Brisbane
3 West Coast
2 Sydney
2 Adelaide
2 Collingwood
2 Essendon
2 North Melbourne
1 Port
1 Carlton
1 Bulldogs

I don't see the absurdity in the biggest day in our code, being held annually at our biggest stadium, the home of our code.

South Australians need to get over the whole kick a vic thing. It's the year 2016 and Victoria and Melbourne have long ago left South Australia and Adelaide behind. There is no rivalry anymore because we aren't even on their level. It's so embarrassing and pathetic.

Tell us though, I'd the Grand final was in Adelaide between Port and Hawthorn, how would ticket allocations go? How many thousands would miss out? You obviously haven't thought about that though.
And I guarantee you the biggest sooking and whinging would come from right here in Adelaide. And South Australians would be blaming the AFL and accusing them of bias to pack in as many Victorians as possible.

Get over it bloke.
I don't really care about ticket allocation or which venue fits more supporters or makes more money or anything like that. And I'm not from SA and have no ingrained 'kick a Vic' mentality. I just want something resembling a fair and equitable competition. Home town advantage is well established as being an advantage in all sports world wide. The last three grand finals have seen Melbourne based teams play grand finals in Melbourne against higher qualified teams from Sydney, Perth and Sydney again.

Exhibit A is 2015. West Coast (2nd) beat Hawthorn (3rd) in the qualifying final in Perth by 6 goals. Three weeks later, the same two teams play the grand final at the MCG and Hawthorn win by 8 goals. That is basically outrageous.

Because it won't change until 2037 thanks to the 40 year deal signed in 1992 and then 5 year extension when Eddie helped negotiate the no PF home game at the MCG if 2 non Vic teams won the QF. It's like complaining about rainy days for the next 21 years. The ground played no part in Sydney not starting well - like they did in the PF at the G and hanging on against the cats. The Doggies were always going to finish with more run. That had nothing to do with being at the G. They did that at Subi and Spotless.
Not taking anything away from the Dogs, they may well have won had the game been at the SCG. But in general, it's a ridiculous advantage that Melbourne clubs have for no proper football based reason.

And I accept your rain analogy but that still won't stop me complaining ;)

Confidence plays a huge role in success . Lets hope the Port boys can rip their arse into gear next season. Unfortunately on this site you will get some attention seeking vindictive wanks who want to blame coaches from years ago . These try hard pseudo intellectuals and the piss weak suck boy followers who lap this shit up and will drop their panties to please, are easy to pick . Insulting and negative remarks about our club seem to impress these weaklings . The more horrid one particular anti Port Adelaide person becomes, the more his ignorant followers seem to get a hard on. Wake up boys, this goose needs immediate medical attention.
