We can't fall into the trap of comparing other suspensions to the Hodge v Wingard suspension. If Hodge getting two weeks for that hit is used as a precedent, it's entirely possible that nobody will ever be suspended again.

Jonas deserved what he got. Hodge deserved much more than what he got, but that doesn't make the Jonas decision wrong.
I'm not suggesting that Jonas was robbed. It deserved at least 4, and the extra 2 could be termed a penalty for stupidity. But if Lance Franklin or Luke Hodge had done the same thing, there'd be more chance of Angela Merkel and Donald Trump becoming romantically involved, than there would be of either of those 2 copping a 6 match penalty.

I've been as tough as anybody on TJ but with regard to ^ I was at the game and not that far from the incident.
I have not seen a slow mo of it and probably remember wrongly but Jonas seemed, to make contact with Gaff's shoulder or top of back first. His forearm then deflects upwards into the back of Gaff's neck/head. Clumsy or malicious? The former to me. Brain fart from a fundamentally
fair player. All water under the bridge now.
I was sitting behind the goals in "the locker room" seats. I most certainly thought it was a dog act and was very angry about his level of stupidity.

No one is using the Hodge penalty as a benchmark, they're comparing the glaring inconsistencies.

Jonas was bad but I don't believe it was all intentional. He looked indecisive and only put his arm up very late.

Stupid, careless, but not malicious.

So you're completely fine with these.
No one on this forum would have been but, more recently, the AFL and MRP were completely happy with Nakia Cockatoo's tackle which resulted in a Crers player being concussed and missing the following week as a result.

Just looking for consistency.

Welp...Burger theory is good I guess.

Adelaide Oval AFL footy fans will pay more for food and soft drinks this year as two new vendors join match-day options

FOOTY fans will pay more for hot chips, pies and soft drink at Adelaide Oval than they did before the final siren last year.

But stadium management said prices would not change following their November 2016 price hike, when an average 3 per cent rise in food and beverage prices was applied ahead of the summer cricket season.

This comes as two new food vendors – Burger Theory and the Wingman – join the Oval’s offering for the 2017 AFL season, which kicks off with the Crows-GWS Giants clash next Sunday.

Price increase of Wickercorp food/drink that I wouldn't touch with a 30-odd-foot-pole-of-grunt is a decent trade off for the introduction of edible food to the stadium.

Tbh Hartlett's cheapie on Roughead is the most shameful act I've seen from a Ports player recently.

Unnecessary and of all people to take a cheap shot at. Brad Hill says HH has form with this stuff. Cotchin did it to Boak too at AO.
Pitdawg came in and put him on arse. We don't like it done to us, so stop doing it hammer.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, it may have been lost in the argument over who is the better Ports supporter.

That ad that reads like a Bulldogs membership campaign using AFL money. At what point did any other premiership team get an ad dedicated solely to them to promote the new season?

The AFL advert is meant to promote the game and the upcoming season, not an individual club.

I doubt any other year has the AFL had practically the worlds biggest movie star come to them and say "I have an idea to do a Bulldogs ad"

So the AFL is a cult of celebrity now? Who cares what Hemsworth wanted? If he wants to help the Dogs out, let him do their membership ad. That money belongs to the entire league and all 18 clubs, to promote the game to new fans. The start is fine, but the whole "secret weapon" bit is just Hemsworth's wish-fulfilment.

It's like the AFL didn't get the boost in membership for the Dogs that they expected from their rigged GF so they doubled down on this ad.

It's for the cult of money money money, and celebrity brings money and interest with it. It also helps that the AFL is in love with the narrative of the bulldogs and will do anything to promote that.

Traditional and unsuccessful VFL club falls on hard times loses everything and then does the unthinkable and wins a flag outside all odds from 7th. It's the perfect narrative because it ticks all the boxes the AFL craves to see every year.

Sydney really was the perfect patsy.

Non-Victorian, academy-aided, COLA-infused team of superstars. Apart from their own supporters, who cared that they got cheated out of a premiership?

F@#king noone, that's who. Some probably reveled in the fact that they got screwed over.

If Port was on the receiving end of that umpiring display in a Grand Final I'd be buying a sniper rifle.

More like it's the perfect way of increasing Dogs memberships and attendances at a stadium that the AFL now owns. No one is going to follow a football team because Hemsworth does, so therefore businesses won't put their support behind them either. What they will do, however, is follow and support a football team that is shamelessly promoted at the expense of everyone else because they've got nothing else going for them other than a premiership win that didn't generate the spike that they always claimed it would. 36,664 members officially - we got that in 2012 FFS.

Bulldogs are played out. We've already seen that movie.

The AFL is trying to financially sustain Victorian clubs and this is a good way of pushing their one of their many east coast domination agendas.

Precisely.

By penalising Hartlett the AFL signalled that he should've let him just blow on by. In which case we would've treated him like Nathan Lonie and drummed him out of service.
That's silly Tribey. Just shepherd your man! Happens dozens of times EACH match, without chucking your shoulder into the oppo player. Yes if he was more aware, he could have avoided it, but the onus is on the tackler, not the one being tackled. Complain all we want, but that is the state of play.

Hartlett has regular brainfades, ie, the stomach hot on Roughy on the weekend. He does get a bit of white-line fever, which he needs to control.

There have been quite a few ladder predictions lately so lets have a look at the last 6 years what's happened in the finals.

2009 & 2010 the top 4 was the same but the order changed between Geelong, Collingwood, St Kilda and Doggies. Since then 2 or 3 changes happen ever year to the final 8 and every year the top 4 has changed either comparing home and away to home and away or after finals and a top 4 side has gone out in straight sets. The last 3 years at least one top 4 sides have gone out in straight sets after 14 years when there were only 2 examples under the current system, 2001 Port by 3 pts and 2007 WCE in extra time. The weeks rest come finals might ensure another top 4 side goes out in straight sets in 2017.

2011 Into 4 Haw, WCE Out of 4 WB, StK ........ Into 8 WCE, Ess Out of 8 WB Freo

2012 Into 4 Adel, Syd Out of 4 Gee, WCE ....... Into 8 Adel, Freo, NM Out of 8 Ess, StK, Carl

2013 into 4 Gee, Freo Out of 4 Adel, Col ......... Into 8 Rich, Port, Carl out of 8 Adel, WCE, NM
** Ess finished 7th but kicked out of finals for doping

2014 Into 4 no change Out of 4 no change........ Into 8 Ess, NM Out of 8 Carl, Col
** 2 sides out in straight sets Geelong (5th) and Freo (6th) and Port finished 3rd, NM 4th.

2015 Into 4 WCE Out of 4 Gee........................ Into 8 WCE, WB, Adel Out of 8 Port, Gee, Ess
** Sydney out in straight sets (5th) NM finished 4th.

2016 Into 4 Gee, GWS Out of 4 WCE, Freo........ Into 8 Gee, GWS 8 Out of 8 Freo, Rich
** Hawks out in straight sets (5th) Bulldogs climbed from 7th to premiers.

So in 6 season 15 of the 18 sides have played in finals. Only Melbourne, Brisbane and Gold Coast haven't. It wouldn't surprise me if Melbourne and/or GC make it in 2017.
