I reckon you'd have to be a pretty hardcore Port man to do the switch if you were a decent player because there would be absolute hellfire coming your way. Just look at the types traded between the two clubs in the past, Symes, Bode, I mean really who gives a shit? But an A-grader would be given hell and that's probably part of the reason why it hasn't happened once in over 20 years.
Big name trades have generally been to home states, unless huge money (Buddy and the initial GC / GWS contracts) was involved. Even the free agent ones within Victoria have generally been for huge salaries the initial club wouldn’t match.

I wouldn’t have a problem dealing fairly with Adelaide on a player going either way. Adelaide though would be so paranoid that the trade would appear to not favour them by a fair degree they’d keep putting up ridiculous demands, then blame Port when it didn’t occur.

Actions and word: take the Crow's Cameron trade saga as an example.
Action: Acrimonious negotiations drawn out until the last minute, including a fake media news "Cameron wants to stay" black ops operation.
Word: "Admiration of the nation" club concludes; "Cameron traded on compassionate grounds". :rainbow::rainbow::rainbow::rainbow:

If it was me I'd switch to Port the first moment I had the chance, and relish the hellfire coming my way. Pissing off their horrible supporters and rubbing their noses in what a putrid entity they are would make the shitstorm coming your way well worthwhile.

If I got drafted to the Crows then I would cause as much damage as possible from the inside in the 2 years I'm there, then go to Port, become a club legend and terrorise and haunt the Crows (and the 16 other campaigner clubs) for hopefully about 12 years.

McLeod was from the NT and played exactly one season for Port Adelaide in 1994 before going to the Crows. It wasn't like he was a Magpies junior who came up through the ranks and was in love with the club.

Yep look around the world where there are great rivalries in the the big sports in a 2 team town and it's very rare a great player of one team transfers to the other team.A Celtic player going to play for Rangers is the sort of thing we are talking about. It happened about 20-25 years ago for the first time and the guys life was hell. See if I can find the article I read about it around 10 years ago. Celtic and Rangers have the added hatred because of the Catholic v Protestant divide.
Luís Figo (Barcelona-Real Madrid) was very controversial at the time.

Here, players usually go to somewhere else before playing for the rival. I would need to check the history of direct changes.

Mo Johnston is the only one I can think of, as he was the first catholic to play for Rangers. I also think he went to someone else in between.
Kenny Miller more recently, but he was at Cardiff as well.
Just looked Mo up, he went to Nantes in between. He also played for the other big Glasgow team, the Jags (Partick Thistle).
Geez just noticed Partick Thistle.
Few of my Ancestors played for them.
Just for interest .........
John Proudfoot was a centre-forward who played for several seasons, making his debut against Dundee Wanderers at Inchview on 11/08/1894, when he scored two goals. Brother of David, George, Lawrence and William who all played for Thistle. On leaving Thistle he joined Blackburn Rovers, scoring on his debut and playing 37 times, scoring 14 goals (top scorer in 1897-98). He left Ewood Park for Everton where he scored 30 goals in 84 games (top scorer in 1898-99) before he joined Watford. After being suspended for "insubordination" in December 1902 he returned to Thistle for a season before ending his career with Hamilton. Worked in the shipyards of the Clyde.Career: Partick Thistle 1894; Blackburn Rovers 1897; Everton 1898; Watford 1902; Partick Thistle 1903; Hamilton Academical 1904.Representative honours: Glasgow v East of Scotland 1894 (cap below); v Sheffield 1895John was also capped three times when he represented Glasgow in city versus city games, two of which were against Edinburgh and Sheffied.

Steve Johnson reveals the ‘embarrassing’ day he was sacked by Geelong
STEVE Johnson was desperate to be part of a Geelong resurgence in what would be his 15th season with the Cats in 2016. But with younger players getting games even if they didn’t deserve them, he could see the writing on the wall. In an exclusive extract from his book Stevie J: The Cat with the Giant Story, Johnson reveals what really happened the day he was “given the arse”.

Interesting read about how he was treated and his relationship with Chris Scott.

I too would slip laxatives in the Gatorade on Grand Final day.

McLeod moved down from Darwin and played ONE season for Port in the SANFL. Hardly a rusted on Port man with generations of history with the club.
He started with Adelaide at a time we didn’t have an AFL side for Port fans to aspire to play for. Also although it was two years after drafting we came in, it was also during the SNAFL inflicted two clubs era to muddy the waters. Also for a Figjam moving across to a new team, widely expected to be shit for years wouldn’t have appealed. Buckley vs. Wanganeen is a more apt comparison.

Not getting Scott Thompson, because Choco was too busy ego stroking after the 2004 flag annoyed me much more then not getting McLeod. Port boy, wanting to come to Port, we had success to offer. Bloody hell.

So the Richmond Player is Nathan Broad, who will front the media today.
I see his off-field decision making is about as good as his on-field decision making. Still in shock that bloke is on an AFL list, let alone has a premiership medal. If he can win a premiership then I’m holding out hope for Jimmy Toumpas’ 2018 Norm Smith.
