AFLX is being received so poorly that I think the delays regarding it are not due to any logistics or other concerns - it's that people don't want it.
Maybe Gil should have tried AFLXXX. Nathan Broad can be the producer.

Indoor Footy during the Summer is the way to go. The pitch should look like a Plaza de Toros. Maybe a bull could even spice things up: "AFLX, X for eXtreme!"

"People have a view about Port and Adelaide being in the SANFL but I think it loses something if they weren't here, that's my personal view," McLachlan said.

Yes, losing Port from the SANFL means taking out its sole redeeming element.
What on earth would the SANFL "lose" by taking Adelaide out of the comp?
Other than money, I can't think of one thing.

The usual "Gil the dill" circlejerking aside , can anyone explain to me how it is conceivably feasible or even necessary to run a national reserves league shadowing the AFL season?

Easy.
Step 1: sack Gill as CEO.
Step 2: appoint new CEO.
Step 3: new CEO sets up reserves comp.
Step 4:

No. Such an undertaking would do nothing but put a huge cost onto non-Victorian teams. There would be no or little advantage in the quality of opposition. Even Victorian teams would have an extra cost as they would have additional travel.
