So Round 1 gets underway tonight but Richmond vs Carlton is near-on impossible to get excited for.

Everybody hates that this match-up always opens the season, but the footy-starved public will always tune in regardless and that justifies it for the AFL to keep this "tradition" running

That's why. The last 15 years the AFL has been able to count on Carlton being shit. It doesn't take too many rounds for Blues fans to drop off, so sticking them in as the blockbuster opening game draws them out, where as by round 5 or 6 Richmond v Carlton would get 30k less. Ironic that it'd take it being a good contest between two teams to make it worth the AFL's while to shift it (when talking crowd numbers, not for the football spectacle itself obviously).

Yes, over the reporting of injuries:

He may get away with it this once, but if he keeps it up he's going to draw attention to himself from the powers that be at West Lakes:

Worse still, he could find himself being 'audited'...

That's gold!

He's not going to sign in the next 48 hours.

Jake Niall from the Age reckons that the AFL is pushing for introducing free agency for life in 2019. However, the AFLPA stipulated when signing the new CBA that it had to be introduced for the 2018 season.

Why is this important? Because free agency for life kicks in after 10 years. And if it's introduced this year, Sloane is a UFA.

So until the AFL and AFLPA sign off on when free agency for life actually starts...Sloane won't be signing anything. Unless he and his manager are stupid as ****.
So now the AFL have ruled Sloane a restricted FA what can we safely assume?

The wave Richmond are on at the moment, you could vs them against GWS and they'd get 80,000 there.

The AFL have to shove their Victorian Wankbusters in early because both Carlton's and Collingwood's seasons will be over by round 8. Really surprised the AFL haven't done more to get Carlton up.

They’ve done plenty over the past few seasons, but it’s got too noticeable so they are backing off.

Wasn't it only 2 seasons ago they had 6 Friday night games?

I only just realised that Chris Kamolins has retired from umpiring. Hallelujah for that!

He was one of the chief architects in the 2017 Kardina Park & St Kilda at Adelaide Oval massacres.

Meh who cares about the fixture. Enjoy it for what it is

My only real beef is the timing of Saturday's game. I love Saturday twilight games, but it's still daylight savings this week and odds are pretty high you'll get a hot day in Adelaide this time of year. This should have been the Saturday night game.

It’s very important, particularly on an individual level. I hate, hate, hate missing games, but when they are in certain slots at certain times of the year it is unavoidable (not to mention the difficulty of getting to away games with some of our issues).

The whole point of fandom for me is going to the games, and if the lopsided fixture causes issues (be they comfort or ability to go)...I’m pissed off.

I recently re-watched the Port v Saints Ryder2Gray game, I forgot how awful that game was except for the last two minutes. Even the decision to throw the ball in that lead to Ryder2Gray was completely wrong, should’ve been ruled deliberate and a free kick.

Ironically it was this biased call from the umpire that caused the scenario that won us the game. Had they correctly called a few to us, we probably would have tried to kick the ball across the field and either lost possession or run out of time.

I remember when we seemed to get every Sunday game which I hated and clashed with junior football. We are far better off than we were for the last few years
