Looks like a great start to the season judging by the close score... do Carlton still have that Irish mid?
Tough question...I'm not sure what is or isn't a mid these days, but are you remembering Zach Tuohy from recent years (now at Geelong)?

Or are you talking about Ciaran Sheehan?
Or Ciaran Byrne?
Or Cillian McDaid?
Or Paddy Dow*?
Or Marc Murphy*?
Or Sam Docherty*?
Or Cam O'Shea*?
Or Harrison Macreadie?
Or Pat Kerr*?
Or Lochie O'Brien*?

Jeebus H Chripes - The IRA is already here...

* may or may not be "Irish"...with my definition of "Irish" equalling being born in Ireland

Look quick lesson because everyone is so quick to pick everyone up but not actually teach them what is wrong:

there = place or position... eg why doesn't he kick it over there?
their = they own ... eg. their tickets were invalid ...
they're = they are eg they're complete f***silly people they barrack for the Crows.
There is also the continued misuse of then instead of than, ie player X is better `then' player Y, instead of the grammatically correct, is better `than.' ;)
That particular mistake is now in common use, and not just on footy sites, I have read pieces from so called `journalists ' who have used `then ' incorrectly. o_O

Carlton had 2 spare in defence most of the game, made Simpson & Marchbank in particular look much better.
And it worked well for them last night to counter Richmond's forward-pressure game style.
Is it a tactic that will stand up every game?

You do realise that Cruise is standing on a box (its written into all of his contracts) :D
Troy Donahue did it the other way, his leading ladies stood in trenches. Monty Python took this off in their sketch "Scott of the Sahara" with Michael Palin playing the short-arse male lead.

Hey guys,

Made me laugh as I saw the humour in paddy Ryder’s house being broken into and the way it played out.

Don’t think the robbers would have had any white parts left on their underwear when they saw big paddy Ryder coming down the hallway. Can’t think of a much scarier sight for a burglar. Think they will be scarred for life and never rob again.

Like it did last night, it is a tactic that will stand up for most of the game but sooner or later it will be negated. Towards the end of the game Simpson was not spreading the ball as efficiently as he had been earlier.

Alan Ladd too - they would dig a hole for taller actors to stand in and also use the dirt from the hole to make a mound for Ladd to stand on :D

It only takes a decent long shot for goal to eventually negate.

Have a look at the video of the Tigers giving away 50-metre penalties for protected zone infringements. Ask yourself these questions :
1. Were they trying to get into an area where they were interfering with play?
2. Were they close to a mark/free and just running on in their normal course?
3. Was the ball player impeded?

If the answers are no, yes, no then the frees were ridiculous. Sure they were within the law but IMO one of the worst rules around. Remember the one where Leigh Montagna was easily 10 metres from Buddy Franklin and then his swing took him to within 10 metres? They paid that one as a fifty.

In one of them the Tiger was only close as the Carlton player retreated to where he was, and he did run around him and keep his hands up to show he was not interfering. In this and all cases Carlton were not held up and got a free shot at goal from the square or extremely close. There are some frees that are good frees but are badly administered. This is simply a bad free, umpires should be able to make a call on whether someone is unfairly impeded or not. Frees based on an arbitrary misdemeanor cheapen our game. It shows how crap Carlton are too. Even with Richmond's diabolical kicking, their good kicking and a free 30 points they still lost by 26 points. Anyone who tipped Richmond winning by over 50 would have fair reason to be spewing.

All there (their, they're) s are SUPPOSED to be pronounced the same. (As are the words you substituted).
Having said that, in Wenglish words like - ear, hear, here and year are all pronounced the same (yur).
Just to make it a bit more difficult - quite a few words have different pronunciations depending where you are from. Mayor can be "mare" or "may-or", Castle can be "cassel" or "car-sel".

Actually the Michael Palin character was meant to be based on Alan Ladd, I got that wrong. Troy Donahue was 191 cm.

Your sentence contains two clauses, so:
either; So Essendon by 100 people. Go make bets.
or; Essendon by 100 people, so go make bets.

Castle, graph, class. These are the three words that will show if you've got any of the latter. Those on the Eastern seaboard of Australia with cassel, grafff, classs show their convict roots still with these ones. :D

The 10m protected zone 50m penalties last night were umpired appallingly in the main.

Carlton came out of the blocks and played well, but its a low bar for them. Richmond gave them a 5 goal headstart, gave away 4 goals from those 50m penalties, and kicked terribly at goal and in general play (a bit of that might be round 1/premiership slow start), I feel like the scoreboard flattered Carlton in the end.

In my defence i was not trying to portray myself as an expert in language (far from it) i was just doing what i thought was needed. People often pull people up for things on here but do not explain why. Unlike your good self who quite rightly pointed out what a terrible poster i am on here.

But in my defense or defence i do often write hurriedly (and sometimes when i have been drinking). And correct grammar and spelling are usually not considered at these times. Thank goodness for helpful people.

I was just joining in on the spirit of the recent thread - not having a crack. And the point you were making was a good one.

You're far from a terrible poster - keep up the quality work.:thumbsu:

I actually agree with all of those frees. The example you mention, particularly so! I mean Caddy had already been pinged for it, yet he does it again! Looking at the replay, he clearly entered the frame from the rear of the player with the ball, realizes he is too close, and belatedly raises his hands in innocence. Yes he had no intention of interfering with the kicker, but he should not have been there! He could easily have stopped his run, but because he wanted to get to a position, he took the easy route, broke the rule, and paid for it. As long as they are consistent, I am happy.

https://au.sports.yahoo.com/afl/a/39603051/s-ing-myself-taylor-walker-reveals-grand-final-woes/

Adelaide captain Taylor Walker admits being "super-anxious" and not being able to think clearly during the Crows' AFL grand final meltdown.
"I was super-anxious before the game and I didn't speak about my feelings or emotions.

"This year I'd be more inclined to say to the boys, 'Look, I'm shitting myself too. It's OK'.
"I was too caught up in what I needed to do individually rather than what the group needed from me."
Captain of the year...

Remember Henry McGee, the guy who opened the Benny Hill Show with "Yes, it's the Benny Hill Show!". He was once a victim of punctuation when he was playing a dramatic actor in the British soft porn "Come Play With Me" and his leading lady was meant to say "What is this thing called love?" but said "What is this thing called, love?"
