I like Sunday footy. It's the time slot I most regularly watch. Even better if Port is involved. Never understood the resistance.

Good couch time, not live time.

The problem with our draw is nit the lack of Friday /Thursday night games or the fact we get 4 free to air games.

Its both that stink.

Agree, not keen on more than one per season. Pain in the butt when u have to front up to work the next day.

Yes, and I fully understand the desire for TV coverage etc but it also places extra difficulties for members with clubs already having high expectations of attending matches, buying merchandise etc.

Then again, times have changed, so just move on I guess.:)

Barrett is such an incredibly poor quality writer. Amazing he’s made a career as a professional journalist.
To be fair to him - it's his ability to build relationships and leverage information that is his strength, not his writing. However he's been massively caught up in his own ego since he's been made a personality in the last few years.

the more i look and read about it the more i hope both Sloane and Lynch both stay at the Crows. 28 and 27 years old. will get a 4 year contract each, will both be on some decent $$$.
Sloane injury isnt a good one to get and lynch or jenkins (whos on coin and contracted up) keeping out that young KPF they have.
as much as i like the lol youve lost another lot of players you wanted, id rather see them tie up lots of cash and years on these two. also not get any more picks etc
100%
This NEEDS to hapen!

West Coast should be forced to play all 11 home games as Sunday Twilight because a) the time difference means Sunday twilight in Perth is actually a much more reasonable 2:40 start and b) they sell out their stadium in November the previous year so who gives a shit if a few thousand don't rock up.

The rest should be evenly distributed among the other 17 clubs.

You cant do that. They deserve a share of Thursday, Friday and Saturday night footy. And it would mean most of their away games are Sunday.

As a player I would hate to have 18 or 19 Sunday games. It means you dont really have Saturday off still thinking about the game where as play Saturday and Sunday is a free day. It shouldn't just be the Vic teams who get most of their games on Friday and Saturday.

You overrate how much of a shit I give about what West Coast players/fans think and underrate how much I want to see them suffer.

:p just trying to be reasonable. Your post sounded like Craig Hutchinson's, there should be a 5pm game in Perth every week because its good for us Victorians to have a 7pm Sunday night game on TV every week.

Maggies, Spurs, Raiders?
It's not hard to put a ranking system weighted by:
(not necessarily in this order)
a) previous year's finish spot
b) previous year's final audited membership
c) previous year's home crowd attendences
d) previous year's television ratings (for said prime slots)

and if you divide this in a top 6, middle 6, bottom 6 tiers;

and say a Friday night is 5/5 desirability, Saturday nights 4/5 rating, Thursday night 4/5, Sat Twilight 3/5 and Sat & Sun mid afternoon 2/5 and that godawful lunchtime Saturday is a 1/5;

I'm sure the AFL would love another one of their crazy hidden formulas to run and come up with the ideal viewing fixture based on some arbitrary facts, figures and data that would give teams that deserve prime slots while also getting higher quality matches for neutrals viewing

TLDR stop giving it to carlton

Not sure if this is the right thread so a mod sees it please move it if isn't.

It's a tweet from that 75 sanfool season on 43 year delay page that I mentioned earlier

I had a look at that account last night. Some great old stuff in it. I wonder if next year we get 1976 season?

The only relevant metric is tv ratings. Hence Carlton getting so many Friday night games.

I wonder if the author spends their days at the State Library or has all this stuff in scrap books in the spare room o_O

I hope they don't fall off the perch before they get around to 1977.

I just wish someone would explain to him what "Sliding Doors" means. It isn't stuff of the calibre of "IF Port lose Paddy Ryder for a few games THEN they'll need a backup ruck option".

TV Ratings - the figure which has dropped by 14%
Bloody Carlton - soccer World Cup should see their viewing and attendance numbers drop even further. Maybe the idiotic fixturing is related to that line of thinking and response from AFL House.

He has been writing that for a few years now, and admittedly I don't read it every week, but I can't actually remember a single occasion when he wrote a genuine sliding doors situation.
