Isn't it ludicrous that in 2018 in a multi billion dollar supposedly professional national sport we are relying on the vagaries of an unbalanced draw to decide finals positions.

I know we talk about it a lot but every now and again the absurdity of it just bubbles over in me.

Hey Gil if you want to be remembered for something more than a Country Road look do something brave.

Lynch never wanted to leave Adelaide as has 3 kids (a new baby) and is quite settled. But he was given the old lowball (you need us more than we need you) type deal to start. I reckon they bumped it up a bit to balance out some bad press as is the norm. Still hope Sloane stays with them as well. Rather he stays than they get the currency to trade up.
Sloane will stay, nobody will touch him with that injury unless he’s dirt cheap.

On what planet is Lynch worth $750k ? If he got offered that much to get out of west lakes and return to Vic, he must be on 1 Mill to stay at the swamp.
Mitch McGovern is going to be really pissed now.

This re-signing will hopefully satisfy the masses, they'll stop asking questions, and the deeper issues at the Crows will remain unresolved. Perfect.
The problem is that they let this story get so far out of control that there is no answer they can give that will satisfy the masses. They have tried the 'everything is fine noone has issues ' yesterday and even on the off chance that was true, noone believes it.

If the truth IS all the bizarre stuff they can't come out and admit anything now.

Well and truly backed into a corner.

Only going on a crazy win streak will quiet the noise at this stage. That and having no players want out .

FWIW Jake Lever just said that he found the 12 weeks of CM last year to be excellent. Man Crows fans must be like 12 levels of despair deep.

I did enjoy how Pyke specifically mentioned Sloane as liking the CM program as if it was to help keep the wolves at bay about his contract.

Really they are just managing his exit now. So that when he goes it's all " We did right by him and he did ok by us"

Won't matter. Blood will be bleeding from every orifice.

I'll ask again. Where has that absolute fraud Andrew Fagan been throughout all this? Nowhere to be seen, head down in a bunker somewhere. What an absolute squib. When any sort of shit hits the fan at Port Adelaide it's Keith Thomas who places himself in the direct line of fire taking full responsibility.
Andrew Fagan. What an absolute useless, gutless piece of shit.
This is the question I asked asking my crow friends last night at a function and underlined to them that KT would have been front and centre if it were our club. Personally, I'm happy that Burton fronted up because only he showed what a total jackass he is. Pyke was barely a pass mark.

I haven't done the math, and I am not sure I will, but the percentage system bothers me a bit. I wonder whether a "% differencial" system would be substantially fairer.

It is basically a point-differential system, but with every game being worthy 100 points. Those who know math around here, could you tell me whether this would improve the current system or it is just the same thing with other clothes?

---
TeamA%points + TeamB%points = 100.

Team%points = (TeamPoints*100)/(TotalPointsScored)

%Diff. = Team%points - Opponent%points
---
Then, it is just a matter of adding up the %Differential for every game throughout the season.

For instance, we have beaten Melbourne by 75-65, in a total of 140 points scored.

(75*100)/140= 53.57
(65*100)/140= 46.43

Port's %Diff. would have been +7.14
Melbourne's, -7.14
Adding differentials as you suggest could lead to more defensive games as the larger differentials would come in low-scoring games such as the example you use. Say a team wins a game 110/100 then the calculations are (110*100)/210=52.38 and (100*100)/210=47.62, a differential of 4.76. With that difference coaches would get their players to play defensively and build up those extra differential points. As posted by Noddy Holder, the system you suggest is used in the SANFL although over the whole season's scores. Used that way it is more or less like the AFL one although it does not allow so much for large moves like making up a 5% deficit late in the season.

This is really interesting. I'm gonna have to work out the maths later to see if it makes a difference.

The sanfl use the system you describe. It's the one I grew up with so it made more sense to me. But essentially I don't think it would make any difference to ladder position
That's not quite right. SANFL percentage is:
For / (For + Against)

GP's proposal is:
(For - Against) / (For + Against)

The whole CM thing is just bizarre for supposedly elite athletes.

I wonder whether the most recent great teams - Brisbane, Geelong and Hawthorn - ever needed to undertake something similar. I’m guessing no.

The Power Rangers stance was quite simply laughable, just like how they also had to put ‘applause now’ on the big screen after every goal.

Play every team once, then your derby a second time.

18 games

So simple.

Lynch is an important player to them but he’s no star. The media and their marketing department will send this into overdraive as though it’s on par with Ollie re-signing.

I usually  whenever the media uses the term "massive coup for the club" when they re-sign one of their own players. I don't remember it being used for Ollie, but for the Corporation getting any of their required players to commit - let alone a Victorian player - really is a massive coup
