North are embarrassing themselves. De Goey is good, but not worth $1 million. They are so desperate to land 'a big fish'. Still if their reek of desperation forces other clubs to pay overs for players it's not all bad. I like the bit about Wines staying for less then offers. Strangely no mention of Tom Lynch (the crows version) choosing culture over a bigger pay check.

Yep. North are just not a destination club. They are the bottom of the barrel. Why would anybody outside an absolute desperado want to play for them when they have 9 better clubs in Victoria to play for. If they've got such a war chest, they shouldn't be targeting 1 super star, they should be targeting a couple of B+ers and over paying them. North are definition of a money ball team.

The issue with going to North is they are always one bad season from being a complete basket case. Collingwood and Carlton have the luxury of being shit and still pulling crowds and good timeslots. The minute there is even a whiff of garbage from the Roo's it'll be instant Sunday afternoons at Etihad in front of twelve surly blokes.

Exactly. Rather then trying to get De Goey, or in the case of Wines before he signed (I'm sure they were one of the clubs putting in a big bid), they should be targeting (from Port) the likes of Amon, Johnson or Hombsch. Players we aren't going to offer bucket loads to and finding it hard to get into / hold a spot in our best 22. In these cases offering (as a completely made up figure) of $400k compared to our $300k, plus more chance of game time could tempt. They are so busy trying for the best, they miss out on realistic prospects that could improve their list.

You’re exactly right, A grade players 9/10 times won’t want to go to a club that loses most weeks when they are at a finals contending club.

They should be going after the players just missing out on games every week, offer them more money and garuntee them a game every week and you’ll start to bring players in, you then improve to a side just missing out in finals (or sneaking in) then you can land the million dollar gun

Cough…Tom Boyd
Yeah but he kicked 3 goals in a grand final - even if he doesn't do much else for the rest of his career, he's worth his weight in gold. If Sam Gray could do something similar this year, he'd deserve his own bronze statue outside Alberton Oval.

If Sam Gray does, I hope the club this time has the sense to cash in on a one time inflated worth in the trade period. 2004 trade period gives me PTSD dog flashbacks everytime I think about it.

Came across some interesting vision of Stevie J in 10 funniest moments of 2015. He was waltzing into a goal against St Kilda and decided to bounce the ball and take it easy. With the result that he was tackled and Geelong did not even get a point for it. The game was a draw but even had Stevie J scored and Geelong won they still would not have made finals, having missed by 4 points in that year. Some other missed goals, stupid plays.

They only played 21 games in 2015 because the game against the crows at AO was cancelled a couple of days after Phil Walsh was murder. I know they had a 11-1-9 season but don't what the percentage difference was. Will have to look it up.

Marngrook long discussion and not at all impressed with what went on THE camp and lack of respect and understanding of aboriginal culture.

Ladder predictor is back on the afl website. It's accessed from the afl ladder. Bit slow to use, if you want to change the margin you have to click on the default of 20 and then adjust the line that comes up. The first couple of times I tried it the line disappeared, it's a bit temperamental and you have to click on the line correctly, after a bit of trial and error you get there. You can change between rounds as well but I prefer the one on squiggle for that because if you're unsure of the round you want to see you just click on fixture and it brings up all the games in a separate window so you can scroll down to the correct game.
Basically, the afl ladder predictor is a bit more laborious because you need 2 actions to change result and margin instead of 1 and also if you want to change a result on https://predictor.squiggle.com.au/ you can check all the rounds at once.

Holy shit. Nankervis is playing only his 50th game this week.
He was mentioned in 100 RossFC posts before he even played a game.
Yep was in Sydneys reserves for a while only 12 AFL games in 3 years there.

Crazy that my 2 favourite big men in Doogie Howard and Toby Nankervis have only played 23 and 49 games respectively. Factor in Brad Ebert is 5-6 years older than them and is on 226 games.

In all seriousness, if Jonas had done that they would be calling for him to be de-registered.

In all seriousness Tom needs to be careful. Under the AFL policy if a player incurs 16 weeks suspension he risks being de registered. By my count Tom has accrued 11 weeks during his career. A hit like Cameron's and Tom probably would risk being de registered.
