West Coast won't come close to the spoon, good coach who is developing a nice rounded list. Their talls in particular are excellent and they've drafted well. As much shit as they copped last year for not beating a team in the top 8... what that does mean is that they beat every team they were meant to, which not even a lot of top teams did.
When a team does that, beats the teams below them but reliably loses to the teams above them, I take that to mean that the club is well coached to the best of the coach's abilities, but the talent is lacking. The big problem at West Coast is the midfield. Their only hope of really improving is if NicNat can have a big season and spoon-feeds their midfield but even then you'd say that 7th is their absolute ceiling.

In the long run they're better off finishing 15th and drafting well but they won't do that. Good to see a rich and powerful club floundering in no-where-land.

Carlton's list is the way it is today - appropriately enough - because of its tanking.

The priority/number 1 picks gave them the chance to get 5 or 6 real quality players - Judd, Walker, Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer - which gave them enough talent to finish mid table, and occasionally in finals. But with mid-range picks and an inept recruiting/drafting system, they haven't had the chance to get greater depth of quality into their side.

I cannot see them challenging for a flag in the next 25 years.

you'd assume it'd improve under Steven Silvagni, now he's back at the club
I don't rate the recruiting/list management work he did at GWS, anyone could pick 30 first rounders but if you go through their list very few are actually playing to that standard & they've given a lot of quality back to other clubs with little in return eg. Tyson, Jaksch, Hombsch, Neade, Boyd, O'Rourke & are a certainty to lose more this year.

Unless Carlton go full tank mode again to replace their failed early draftees of the last 6-7 years Kreuzer, Lucas, Bootsma, Watson, Cripps* (* too early to tell) I don't see them even becoming a mid table side anytime soon.

I had a meeting with some clients from Melbourne today.

While making smalltalk, the topic turned to footy....

"So I guess you are a Power supporter?'

Felt so good that they assumed it straight off the bat. Gives a good indication of the effect the Vic media's love affair with us is having anyway.
Nah, you just forgot to put your teeth in.

the 3rd game fine tuned for Freo, who Ken said were "obsessed with all things Port" so much so that the "spy"
busted snooping at our closed training was from Freo.
I've kept mulling over this nice little tidbit. What do you think this says about Freo? That they think their premiership window is basically closed if they can't beat us at their home in round 1?

Panos is one of the best players outside of the AFL, Baulderstone's weight loss was actually prompted by being contacted out-of-the-blue by Essendon recruiter Merv Keane, he's done testing at Windy Hill before

Essendon have approached an ex port executive to play for them? They really are in strife.

NUFC, YES.
Panos is one of the best players outside of the AFL,
Matthew Panos is to the SANFL as Ben Jacobs was to the TAC Cup/U18Nats.

IIRC, they have had to have been on an AFL list within 2 years

McInness retired after the GF - Norwood wanted him to stick around but his wife had a kid and they went back home to be around family for support. He is captain coach of suburban team in Melbourne - think in the Eastern Football League. Bassett would have considered him and probably has had a chat to him. But it would be Hird's call.
