NUFC, YES.
It never lasts, just like our current era wont. The wheel turns.
Except next time around, we'll have the resources in place to identify and develop the next wave of young talent required to swiftly climb back up the ladder, instead of spending/trading draft picks for the likes of Bent Corncobs and Owen Wilson-Phillips.

At some point he needs to take responsibility for himself.
I understand that. But they have washed thier hands of a lot of issues. If it was just Ben Cousins then fine.

A mate of mine recently leased a property to Daniel Kerr and had to evict him after he drove a car through the front wall in a drug fuelled rage.

Chris Mainwaring with a stand named after him after he died of an overdose, I know he was long retired, but still very much in with the playing group at the time.

Dean Cox recently revealed how deep the drug culture was at that club, it was huge.

I know I'm a bit opinionated, and have had my fair share of "good nights out" as well, but if my son was employed by an AFL club and through this club, was introduced to and became involved with the leading underworld figures of the state (as Ben Cousins was with John Kizon), I would want them to be held accountable. As a parent you have have your duty sure, and eventually everyone needs to take responsibilty for themselves, but clubs have a duty of care as an employer to provide a safe and healthy work environment.

Don't forget, a lot of lives were ruined by West Coast Eagles and their drug culture, and the club was never penalised. In fact they won a premiership when it was at it's most rampant.

It's the same with Richmond and that Jake King guy. If my son was at Richmond last year when they had an ex-sargeant at arms of a bikie gang in the change rooms, I would definately be asking them to explain themselves.

Seriously???? The army doesn't even care for soldiers with PTSD, yet you expect a footy club to further pamper spoiled footballers?

iN 99% of jobs they would have been sacked on the spot, not given ongoing support after they leave.

First point is bullshit. I know this as I served in Iraq and had more PTSD meetings than I cared for.

2nd point, I never said they should pamper him, I said they should have supported him through it and that they should have been held accountable.

I served in Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan and had zero but that's not really the point here, its the liability of the club.
Accountable for what? Did they supply the drugs? Or did adults go out and acquire them from criminals?

They acquired them through criminals, true. And ultimately the individual is responsible for themselves. But the drug culture at the Eagles at the time was huge and it was very obvious and they failed in controlling it. You said in %99 of jobs they would have been sacked on the spot. Eagles didn't sack Ben Cousins on the spot. I live in Perth and at the time it was sickening how much the club and media covered for him. Go to any rave or festival at that time and you were sure to run in to a few "off chops" Eagles.

I'm not particularly feeling sorry for Ben Cousins, I'm just noting the casualties from the culture he was part of.

So pray tell how you would get picks for an out of contract player wanted only by one of the worst teams in the league as a squad player. Bearing in mind that we only had shit picks anyway and only used them because we HAD to.

So lower than 56 for him. From a team that would want him. Basically a first or second rounder.
The onus was on Newton and his management to seek a trade, not do a deal with Melbourne behind our backs that would see him slip away for nothing. Consiparacy theory yes, but I believe that's what likely happened.

Even if it costs them Steven Motlop apparently, Dangers a gun & no doubt alongside Selwood he's a player they could build a midfield around but I wouldn't be losing Motlop just to fit his over-inflated salary under the cap.

Go back to that final the Cats pinched off us in 2013 & they wouldn't have got close if it wasn't for Motlop turning that game on it's head.
