after our draw in 2015, imagine if we finished 5th and for example, the crows finished 4th with their draw.

we miss out on a double chance but are obviously the better side.

I struggle to see how that is a fair and equitable outcome.
This is the AFL mate ... an absolute joke when it comes to fairness and equity.

I tried explaining the fixture to a cousin who's here from overseas. The look of bewilderment was priceless.

A guy rang in to 5AA this morning and made an interesting point regarding the draw. If they persist with this top 6, middle 6, bottom 6 fixture then those teams that have consistently been down the bottom will always play the weaker teams in less favourable time slots. Hard to attract major corporate backing if your constantly playing Sunday afternoons at Etihad with 25,000 people.
Too true. We should give Carlton more Friday night games.

Oh, wait. :D

is he British? if so, they play everyone twice in the EPL don't they?

I know we cant do that but at least bring in a lottery system for the balance of 5 or so games.

I am in agreement with higher placed teams having tougher draws but lower placed teams having easier draws is going to lead to priority pick-type tanking. A team will not even need to look like they are tanking(as Collingwood did when they got their priority pick) to get multiple games against lowly ranked teams. Hopefully the AFL are looking at what has happened and instead of the 6.6.6 system will use an 8.10 or 9.9 system. Any team will take one down year for a flag shot the next year. The problem with the current system is that the finals could include 4 or even 5 teams that get thrashed in the finals.
Fervently disagree.

The competition is already equalised by the draft and the salary cap, after the usual blockbusters are implemented (2 x Showdowns, 2 x Coll/Ess, 2 x Derbies, etc) the league should look to complete a full fixture cycle, regardless of ladder position, every 2 or 3 years.

There should be no acceptable reason for Geelong to not have played Port Adelaide in Adelaide for 6 years, while we go to Kardinia Park to be slaughtered every season - nor should an ascendant team be handicapped by having to play every fellow contender in the first month of the new year.

This season alone is proof that there is no logic at all to the draw. It has become insane actually

That was harsh against Clancee Pearce. He popped his shoulder and stepped over the mark as a result, turned towards the umpire to signal that he was in distress, but had a 50-metre penalty paid against him regardless.

The main trouble that we have had with a selective draw is that top teams sometimes get a gift draw. After Adelaide lost a prelim they still had a nothing draw the next year, not a proper case of affairs. I am dead against such things as a team playing another team twice before another plays them for the first time, with less restriction on the draw this should be able to be eradicated.

Surely you folk realize the draw and TV programming is totally dictated by Ch7/Foxtel..............the AFL are mere handmaidens to the desires of the media.

Fairness and or equality are never considered. Advertising for the media........mega $$$$$$s for the AFL.

All supporters are the poor sods who cop the crap and still expected to cough up the dollars.

I always maintain that most umpires were never good enough to play, and so didn't at any level, so therefore have no 'feel' for the game. This was an instance that proves that. That umpire had no other idea in his pea-sized brain than to apply the letter of the law.

If they were to implement a preordained 2 or 3-year cycle you could find a compromise between needing to retain blockbusters and dishing up equity in terms of making sure everyone plays everyone else home and away in the shortest possible order.

If, as it happens, you found yourself playing a couple of shit teams twice in the one season or a couple of tough teams, you at least know it's coming and everyone will eventually get the same lick on a long enough timeline.
