Even though it's long odds against, I'd love to hear Garry Lyon's reaction if we somehow defy those odds and make it to the major round. The guy refuses to give us any credit, and I guess he'd call it a massive fluke.

Let's face it. Crows have had a cushy draw. Adding insult to injury, in several of their games a big oppo player has been subbed out early in the game e.g. Judd in the Carlton game. When they played GC 3/4 of the team G/C team were out. When they played Essendon, Essendon had hung up the boots. Crows are virtually at full strength now personel wise with a heap of second tier players who have had games over the last couple of years pushing for selection. Crows were a kick away from a GF in 2012 while we had been wallowing at the bottom of the ladder for years. They are definitely ahead of us in the Premiership race sadly even though they have been gifted some games this year. Walsh's death has gelled them just as JMac's did us in 2013. It's the perfect ( shit) storm unfortunately. Please please let them come up against a very in form team if they reach the finals or we will never never never hear the end of it.

Was just reading a story about our win over Hawthorn and found this comment. Obviously from a braindead cow supporter who doesn't even know how to do a bit of research before opening her mouth to change feet.

Did you know Port have only played Hawthorn once a year in 2012, 2013, 2014 and twice this year after you made prelim last season?

Would have answered it but I don't feel the need to register an Adelaidenow account. The truth of the matter is that we played Hawthorn twice in 2012, once in 2013 and 2014(minor round only) and then in the 2014 PF and now twice this year. Since 2000 we have played Hawthorn twice in 9 years. And that is just taking into account minor round fixtures, not finals.

Whereas from 2000 the cows have only been drawn to play the Hawks twice in 4 years. Even after they reached the PF in 2012 they still only played the Hawks once in 2013.

The Carlton & Brisbane debacle just keeps on giving. Each week, it's like watching a slow motion train wreck with these guys. And to think we lost to both spud filled clubs in the same season. Was there an uncontained Ebola outbreak at the club the week we played Brisbane...surely?

Those losses need to burn all summer, next year will be pretty exciting if we can be mentally fit. I have absolute faith in Ken. Crows will fold once it gets hard, then lose Dangerfield, then the media will bother them all summer whilst we can train quietly in the corner. Losing someone like him would be a massive loss to any club.

Hopefully next year we get a cushy draw?

It was said by numerous Port supporters at the time that the losses to the blue baggers and brisvegas, could cost a finals spot, and unfortunately they have.

As you say ` those losses need to burn all summer, ' as this years flag would have been very winnable, and we were probably the team the squawkers feared the most.

Imagine how many goals Wingard would have with the draw Eddie Betts has had this year?

I don't know why you guys are so obsessed about Wingard v Betts - Wingard is a lot younger and gonna be around long after Eddie's retired so just sit comfortably with that...

But in regards to your 'Betts got a soft draw/downhill skiier' remarks, it's interesting that both Wingard and Betts are now on 30 consecutive games of scoring atleast one goal - It wouldn't surprise me if that's an AFL record for Port Adelaide (maybe Tredrea or someone has a bigger streak? Not sure) and Betts is now clear second for the Crows behind Modra (who had 38 consecutive games scoring atlesat one goal)...

Infact, there's only been two games for Adelaide that Betts hasn't scored a goal (both early last year)

I don't see how you can call a small forward a downhill skiier when they score goals in 30 consecutive matches

Roo-Shoot-ee-oh comparing him to Wingard probably stirs up a bit of a slang, Eddie is damn good small forward he's just not Wingard's bootlace that's all.

As much as we'd like to poke fun at Tex minnow bashing if we had a competent key forward effort against the Lions or Carlton we would've won comfortably which is why it's so important we trade Dixon into our club.

Schulzy went goalless against the Blues & kicked one against the Lions both didn't even have their best key backs playing, Dixon kicked 3 against Carlton then 6 & 3 against Brisbane in his two derbies.

I'm a fan of Jay & wouldn't mind him staying but at his age/output not on a bigger deal than he's had in the past, we need a giant that can compete against powerhouses but dominate minnows a fit Dixon fits that mould.

It's more about how we played in those games.

Yeah, Schulz probably could've won the game vs Carlton in the last quarter if he kicked straight but he sprayed 2. Brisbane thumped us and a bag wouldn't have changed squat.

Adelaide play 2 genuine talls forwards and a crumber every week. We play 1, 1 resting ruck, 1 Hoff, and small marking targets more than not.

It is we need to persist with 2 talls whoever they may be, and Neade as our crumber.

Yep, because that was the reason we lost to Brisbane and Carlton.

When people understand that our malaise this year has nothing to do with our forward line structure and everything to do with the lack of run with our midfield, you'll sleep better. We didn't beat Hawthorn because of playing Neade and Butcher. We beat Hawthorn because we controlled the ruck and had a group of midfielders that were prepared to run hard all game, as shown by the disposal numbers.

We played Ryder with Schulz and Westhoff for 75%-80% of most games. Ryder is a better contested mark and kick for goal than Butcher, for example. Most of our goals against the Hawks came from those small marking targets (Wingard 4, Monfries 3). Our problem isn't structure. It's the fact that we've got a midfield that couldn't perform for whatever reason, which starved the forwards of delivery and made them feel like they were responsible for winning or losing if they missed a set shot - which does happen - because they knew the ball wouldn't be down there very much. Couple that with forwards like Neade who weren't performing at the start of the year and it was a recipe for disaster.

Oh, and Adelaide are just skirting along the fringes of the 8 with a piss easy draw so I don't understand why you would put them up as being something we should aim for. Look at West Coast if you want to see a high functioning forward line:

Huh?
Child Abuse Will Not Be Tolerated: McLachlan

The public response to a boy dressing himself as an umpire and going to the football has overwhelmed AFL Head Office this morning. The scene shocked the footballing community during last night's Geelong V St. Kilda's drawn game as it was revealed the boy's own father is openly enabling this to occur. Complaints have poured in to condemn the abuse of the boy who is clearly unaware of what he is doing to himself and too young to understand the consequences.

AFL boss Gil McLachlan has slammed the boy's father, booing him from his corporate box and accusing him of being "blind" and "not having any idea."

"This kind of thing is unacceptable in the modern game and must be stamped out," McLachlan told the media. "The AFL supports healthy families, not this. It won't be tolerated."

Geelong premiership captain Cameron Ling was the first to expose the wrongdoing and expressed concern for the the welfare of the boy. "As an unattractive ginger growing up in a redneck town like Geelong, I know what it is like to suffer humiliation at the hands of bullies. When I saw what this kid was being put through, I had to bring it to light for the nation to witness. It's not on - someone had to do something. Who knows what might happen to this poor kid."

Child Protection Victoria has been alerted and advised members of the public that they are taking the matter very seriously. The telephone operators at the service have asked for patience getting through today because of the unprecedented number of calls.

Eddie McGuire has chimed in calling the boy a "weak little maggot" but later apologised for the comment saying it had been taken out of context.

The investigation continues with the boy's father in hiding, unavailable for comment.

It also helps having a ruckman who can win a tap to advantage and take a contested field mark. Lobbe competes well but has to become noticeably better in both these areas.
