The real killer for the Crows isn't the players they lost, because in general they got compensated.

The real killer is the Tippett penalties (and losing him for free, I guess). Tippett was worth a first rounder at the time as well. So with the penalties, the Crows have effectively had 3 first round picks, and 2 second round picks vanish into thin air.

The effect of that can't be understated. That amount of talent missing from your list is absolutely enormous. I'd assume they would have traded a couple of those picks as well. They'd have been able to keep Vince and get Crouch anyway. If the Crows, with this playing group, get up around Preliminary Final level but never take the next step, you have to wonder how much losing those 5 picks hurt them.

Really, if they are able to win a flag with this list, it will be an absolutely miraculous effort.

It was a huge mistake to trade Vince IMO. I know they were desperate for picks but shipping off a fan favourite, player loved, former B&F, SA boy to probably the worst club in the league was incredibly silly, made to look even worse considering the year he's had this year and the lackluster showing of Crouch Jnr. in the Semi Final. Culture.

Is anyone surprised about the crows and their culture. They were a club put together by a bunch of old SANFL campaigners with the sole purpose of f**king Port over. They refer to their supporters as customers and spend their entire time focusing on what we do rather than improving their club. My hatred for them grows more daily, I'm looking forward to the danger announcement and for the actual exploding heads of 55,000 people.

I'd go a little further with your last point for next year: given Dangerfield's absence and an expected tougher draw, I see it as a miracle if they reach the finals. Even Cornesy said on 7 news this week that their chances of seeing any September action in 2016 are extremely unlikely.

Well according to their board they're getting Menzel, Mayes, Aish, and probably O'meara for Dangerfield, then can trade their first pick for Hartlett (not making this up).

Seriously, Brad Crouch in should be a boost. Lacking in pace but better footskills than Dangerfield. Walker/Betts/Jenkins form a potent enough forwardline. Sloane/B. Crouch/Douglas is a workable midfield, especially with Jacobs in the ruck. Defence is a bit shakey. They're not looking too bad off, I wouldn't be surprised if they could nab another top 8 spot but can't see them doing any real damage with that list. Depends if they can get an established player or two of sufficient quality as part of the eventual Dangerfield compo (including on trading of picks etc.)

I expect, like West Coast with Judd and Collingwood with Beams, the Crows will turn one star into 2 or 3 good prospects which could potentially lead to them being a more flexible and balanced team.

Once you get into the ilk of player we're talking about here you arguably get overcompensated in terms of draft picks. In these deals you never have the chance to replace the player directly, but you do get a few free swings of the bat that you otherwise wouldn't.

They need a decent backup ruck

Don't worry about Paddy, Jacobs is their most important player

Lose him and they're well and truly f@cked

They exist to make finals. 8th is their idea of success!

Adelaide won the hit outs comfortably on Friday night. I still think Dangerfield is their most important player with his insane ability to win the ball. Take him out and their midfield looks nothing more than "workmanlike".

If he was less consistent this would be true, but he is very consistent as well as taking a lot of heat off Sloane.
2 top ten picks though and he can be covered, their problem is bringing those picks (or the players they trade for) through before the Tippett sanctions really bite and Walker, Betts and Sloane age out.
So much hinges on B.Crouch recovering from injury quickly.

They will get crouch back who missed most or all of the year. Don't underestimate how good he can be, Sloane is a genuine a grader too, but they can't be in the middle all game and their depth will be found out, thankfully.

I believe that Brad Crouch could be an A grader but question marks over his body being up to AFL footy are becoming more and more asked.

classic

posted this on my fb and got these responses...

"Would be ironic if he turns around and stays"

"they offer him the earth, we match it, then its hardball, end of the day after winning or coming top3 in brownlow (when over 50% of your disposal rate lands on the grass or in opposition hands) and have the guy leave and have the governing body allocate pick 15 in return....Priceless...that would be the fallout...Can't wait, hope he wins, goes, we match it, and you just look at what we get, we will get what the rest of the haters are praying we dont....Davis, Bock, Tippet, Steven Sideshow Trigg...and the crows folded...oh hang on, thats right, we are still in the comp AND played finals....yep, LMFAO, we dont have a premiership window, we knocked down the whole wall"

classic... the meltdown continues!!
