And one team was allowed to kick a sealer from a marked ball that clearly touched the ground, while the other team had a clear F50 mark stripped away because an opponent said he touched it.

It doesn't matter how shit Carlton or we were that day, that game was actively handed to them.
That was the absolutely worst umpiring for any game I have witnessed.

This is the thing.

Subiaco is a legitimate house of pain. I can't remember the exact statistics, but WCE in particular enjoy an obscene free kick differential so their banshee carry-on and constant booing actually works. Time and again.

When it comes to Football Park and Adelaide Oval, there's always been a big song'n'dance about the umpires not being swayed by the partisan crowd. So our players - Tredrea in particular - pretty much have to be beheaded to get frees and even then, opposition teams can generally get away with far more than the mean when they come here.

With the Subiaco effect behind us you do wonder just how different certain games would've gone.
Eagles fans are such beautiful human beings. I think I'm right in saying that Lewis Roberts-Thompson was booed at Subiaco one day: as he was being stretchered from the field!

Nah, Eagles fans are the most wonderful creatures on earth, just ask the Crows fans how they responded to the game after Walsh's death. Of course, at the opposite end of the scale, Port are the shithousest supporters on God's earth according to them, after all we only handed them our showdown on a platter last year. Let them join in our march etc etc, but no, West coast, the best:thumbsu::rainbow:

All this rehashing of which game did we lie down and think of England in, is giving me PTSD. Please stop or i will be rocking in a corner.

2015 was such a frustrating and shitty season because we had the talent, training, coaching and support to be top 4 and we played like Carlton in so many games. IMO it was more devasting that 2011 and 2012 because we were struggling with players and shit coaches then. We had NO EXCUSE last year. We lacked endeavour and mongrel and teams knew it.
Yeah but those last 4 games showed the real Port Adelaide. If we keep playing like that, with Dixon as the cream on top, look out all comers!

Don't worry...we'll give them the smashing they so richly deserve in R2. To neuter our crowd support with their memorial at our home game while their bunch of yobbos could carry on like pork chops like as if they were winning the grand final was disgraceful. I think our boys only woke up to what was really going on in the last quarter when they realized that 'Hey, this is OUR home game, in front of OUR fans' instead of some neutral venue wankfest that Chapman and Fagan had dreamed up. But by then it was too late.

2016 - ruthless aggression. There's a ******* looooonnnnnnggggg list of campaigners we need to **** up to make the wrongs of 2015 right, and it starts with those ****heads at West Lakes.
& may the best club/team win.

TBH I'm not overly enamoured with those last 4 games.
A brilliant effort against Hawthorn. Struggled against GWS for 3 quarters, then managed to win it in the fourth. A shitty day in the rain against GC, but we should have never let it get as close as it did. Then a good game against Freo, however we were down at quarter time, and should have smashed them by 80+. I'm actually a little worried that people, including the club, will take too much out of what I consider to still be a rather mediocre finish to the season, regardless of the slight improvement on previous form.

I am a bit with you. Until I see genuine improvement with my own eyes, my memory is still filled with some half-arsed football from last season. Smells a lot of 'got Ryder-missing link to Premiership' now with the 'got Dixon-missing link to Premiership'. I will reserve my judgement.

Too true - we seem to 'lift' for big games and then play insipid football against sides we should smash. Its about time we smash teams like the Hawks have been doing for 5-6 seasons.

Those last 4 games weren't worth squat other then for the players to show it to themselves how they play their best footy. For whatever reason other then glimpses we got away from our best footy and played something that didn't resemble Port Adelaide in the slightest for the majority of 2015.

This year they need that mongrel in em every week, no matter who we play and fight for the hard ball no matter who's turn it is to do it. At our best in 2013/14 that's what gave way to our running game. The boys get all that grunt wor right the rest will flow from there. If they don't 2016 will resemble 2015 very quickly.

The frustrating part is that we saw little glimpses in 2015 of what we're capable of - if we can see it more often this year, we'll be hard to beat. But yeah: we'll only succeed through a helluva lot of hard work, and a fair degree of luck as well (which every successful team needs). If things go our way, we'll have a very good year.

Nah, just pushing your own agenda.
Cripes, dispute his post with something like "this stat is completely arbitrary and meaningless and does not reflect individual games or decisions whatsoever" instead of complaining about someone posting here just coz.

2013 we showed the best fight. We didn't have all the skill and silk that we do now but shit we showed fight and we were hard at everything. I remember teams like Sydney wondering what hit them and limping off the ground. We also proved we were never out of the fight until the final siren. Whilst 2014 was more skilful we are lacking the grunt of 2013. Bring that with our skill we will be hard to beat.

Teams didn't take us as seriously back then. We were young and enthusiastic and caught a few off guard. The stakes and pressure are higher now and we need to step up and take it to the next level.

We beat them by 100 points in 2014 and they were even worse in 2015.

No doubt the umpiring was right up there with Essendon 2011 and North 2013, but really they shouldn't have been in the game so that it could make a difference. We trailed all day and that was mainly our own doing in my view.

Ken should have made them walk home after that game.

You're not doing too bad in the scheme of things

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...e/news-story/66893232c4234f095aeb3bcedb3bd45c

Free kick win/loss at home against interstate sides (2011-15)

West Coast 91%

Port Adelaide 78%

Carlton 78%

Western Bulldogs 78%

Geelong 74%

Essendon 72%

Richmond 67%

North Melbourne 65%

Adelaide 63%

Hawthorn 62%

Fremantle 61%

Sydney 61%

Melbourne 60%

GWS Giants 52%

Collingwood 52%

Brisbane Lions 49%

Gold Coast 47%

St Kilda 47%

Overall Free Kick Differential (2011-15)

West Coast Eagles +349

Carlton +112

Port Adelaide +107

North Melbourne +76

Adelaide Crows +48

Richmond +37

Collingwood +17

Western Bulldogs-8

Geelong Cats -23

GWS Giants -25

Sydney Swans -26

Hawthorn-35

Fremantle-56

Essendon-64

Melbourne -83

Gold Coast Suns -106

St Kilda -137

Brisbane Lions -183

This is 5 years worth of data. It would be good to see a year by year comparison because so many variables change, not to mention the change from aami to AO / larger crowds etc.
I can't find anything comparable to the free kick diff by home / away, but did find this which suggests that the vic and wa sides (skewed by WC) may get a slight advantage...although that's hard to argue without seeing a year by year trend and looking at the full data.

AFL Free Kick Differential 2015 by State

Home Side
VIC —
+83 in 20 games (+4.15 per match)
WA — +55 in 11 games (+5)
NSW — +13 in 9 games (+1.4)
QLD — +14 in 10 games (+1.4)
SA — +11 in 11 games (+1)

As for the overall free kick stats from 2011-2015. Looking at the total free for/against diff, Footy wire says that Port ranked 12th and 11th in 2015 and 2014 respectively. I'm not concluding that we're getting screwed but we're clearly not getting the arm chair ride that the 5 yr stats suggest.
