Re Essendon's top ups

Won't they struggle big time with no preseason? +age
I'd imagine a fair few would still be in decent shape, some probably even contacted by the Dons to keep fit in case this situation eventuated.
But yes, they'll still struggle.
Reckon a few draft prospects will be tanking the champs this year in order to avoid being the number one pick.

Crowley was going to play in the WAFL in 2016 so would have done a pre-season there, drug ban allowing, and Kelly played some footy in the NTFL over summer.

Age however is probably the main reason these guys were not on an AFL list for 2016.

But wouldn't he be under the same rules as the Essendon players if suspended. i.e. no playing or training with AFL affiliated sport?

Yes, but when was his ban up? He could start training two months before the end of his ban.

A change.org petition was responsible for sending the rapist and murderer of my young cousin back to solitary confinement, after it leaked he was released in to general population for being a role model prisoner. Dudes who rape girls and then fill their school bag with bricks and drown them are not role models.

Don't underestimate these things.

I don't mean to bring everyone down, but these can make a difference.

I've no confidence that given the pig headed and vested interests of AFL house it will in this case, but that says more about them than the power of petitions in things much more important than football.

So the mob decided that as well as being punished, he deserved to be tortured. That's not really a good thing.

Scumbag still gets off lightly! Although sometimes general population metes out its own form of criminal justice!
That's not really a good thing.

The reason criminal charges are laid as the State vs Scumbag is that as a society we're meant to be better than a baying mob. So change.org influencing individual legal proceedings is not actually a good thing, no matter how satisfying it may be.

I would just like to say, whatever your personal convictions are on how society should be, or what its meant to be are, this outcome brought the family some piece of mind, and however small that may be, that is worth more than whoever thinks that the way the outcome was achieved isn't a "good thing", as they have already been put through more than any human family in a civilised society should.

As the good Doctor has said, if anyone wants to continue the discussions of ethics in the justice system, perhaps there is more appropriate threads.
