They never learn down there just let the guy develop, looks very light to me needs a couple of pre-seasons
Panic about we keep our stars, they lose their's, so they try to manufacture their youngsters are one's in the making. And then they wonder why they either crack or want out due to unrealistic pressure. Leading to the next lot of youngsters to be put under the pump. Rinse and repeat.

Haha now they apparently have two Dangerfields, one Chad Wingard and an Andrew McLeod. Scarily good.

Just a random thought, is it relevant that Brendon Bolton never played AFL? I just find that it's unusual for a senior coach to have never played the game at the highest level.
I don't see the issue. Unless they start awarding points for coaches abilities as a player then as long as they played at a VFL/SANFL/WAFL type level if they've got the tactical nous why limit the selection pool? These days they'd have to go through the coaching certification and you'd expect them to have a 5-10 year apprenticeship in various AFL assistant coaching roles, so it's not like you'd be throwing them in the deep end of no appreciation what an AFL team requires compared to whatever level they played at.

He's no Sam Siggins either.
Sam Siggins is a perfect example.

The poor kid obviously had problems fitting into the AFL system but I wonder if he would still be in the AFL system if he had gone to a nurturing club rather than one that over hyped him to ridiculous levels. At least he was only hyped as the biggest ever draft steal and not constantly compared to past champions.

I do realise that in Sam's case the murder of Phil Walsh was probably a big factor and would not have been a factor had he gone to another club.

What about the hype over Dean Gore? IIRC, he hasn't played a senior game yet, but he's already been touted as the ideal replacement for Dangerfield. Gotta love the Adelaide media - I hope they never change.

Brendan McCartney thread.
Okay so that's one recent example. He didn't do too well in his coaching career at the Western Bulldogs, who then improved drastically under his replacement.

I'll give Bolton a chance. He's got one of the worst lists seen in recent times to work with so I won't be too critical too quickly.

You summed that up very well. We can only give Bolton a chance for the meantime. Carlton saw something in him and he worked under the very best in the business in Alistair Clarkson.

There is also:
Wayne Brittain ... only played lower QLD league.
Neil Craig ... played SANFL
Colin Kinnear ... Only played Vic amateur league
There are also a number of coaches who played very few games at the highest level.
And of course there are a heap of successful assistant coaches who have played very little or no games at AFL level.

I saw him yesterday in my street. No offence but looks better suited to being a runner at a bottle-o than an afl listed player.

One of his former coaches at centrals (a port supporter) reckons he's going to be a gun, and could well play round one.
