I still think they are making a huge mistake with doing away with boundary throw ins. They're going to piss of the purist and I would have thought that's all they've got left propping them up.

It's a major rule change that changes the way the game is played. I'm pissed our junior rucks have to play under those rules. It's not good for their development.
Is that just for the NAB games and trialing it or did they change it for the normal footy season?

The SANFL made it a permanent rule change. They announced it late last year. Sorry, I just realised I didn't emphasise SANFL over AFL.
Cheers, yeah that SANFL change is what confussed me too, as I did a quick google search and it said nothing for the normal season but obviously the SANFL change was ticking away at the back of my memory.

I'd like Tasmania to be removed from Australia, as they are a leech of a state, but that's another level of cruelty you want inflicted on them all together.
i pay more taxes than 80% of the population working as hard as anyone else in the best placeon earth. i wouldnt mind if we were west New Zealand.

Aaaand I'm bored.

I always fal into this trap of being excited for footy to be back and instantly regret it.
I feel like the AFL kind of, maybe did us a favour in the match up... In that, we're all keen for footy to be back, but no one would be expecting much from a meaningless preseason game between last year's premiers and wooden spooners... The game is on at my house, but I'm more interested in dinner

How did the word barometer become accepted in the AFL commentator's lexicon?

Is it used similarly/at all in any other sports? I suppose it sounds better than "pace setter" or similar. Seems like this verbal faux pas that slipped through the cracks and was accepted as correct.

Another 3 or 4 years of this and the AO revenue review is gon' be a doosy.
You've got to love how even though we're now getting zilch from the SANFL (or more accurately aren't getting churned back a fraction of what they took) they still blame the AFL clubs for their losses. Boo hoo, footy moved to AO and now people aren't coming to our shit suburban games instead of the stink hole at Footy Park. Yeah, that's funny how things change when the playing field gets closer to leveled.

You can be sure the SANFL will want a bigger percent of the AO cut or some fixed money from Port and the Crows. For #grassrootsfooty of course.

Gastric band surgery is probably where the SANFL clubs fit in to the pie analogy
Yeah, they could start with making it so they can only have one interstate player. If they want to promote themselves as the last living bastion of all good things South Australian, stop overpaying ex-AFL or VFL players in some vain attempt to be the 'second best league in the land'. As if anyone gives a ****. And secondly given how they've done in SOO recently is a crock of shit anyway.

So West Adelaide can spend $650,000 on the players and coaches wages, whilst bringing in $65 in gate takings.

The stoopidest thing about trialling rule changes in the preseason is the umpires go way over the top in paying them.

Kerridge has been pinged twice for "enroaching the protected area" which is 10m for the NAB Cup.

Except he didn't. He was coming from the front and he went to exactly where the player marked it both times. That's what a mark is. A mark of where the player caught the ball. Which is where the player on the mark should stand.
