Glad he's not playing against us this week, but how the hell can Daniel Merrett only cop 2 games for a deliberate strike, while Fyfe received the same sanction last week for something far less serious? MRP remains a joke!!!!!
It's the biggest flaw with the MRP, a bump is considered worse than an elbow. It is at the stage that if you are about to bump you may as well raise the elbow because there are less activation points for an elbow as compared to a bump. It's a ******* stupid situation, thanks Adrian Anderson for your stupid ****** up system.

Then there's the Andrew Walker situation - lucky for him he wasn't wearing a Port jumper at the time :)

After looking at my Facebook the last day & a bit this is pretty true, I swear some of them enjoy us losing more then their team winning.

Maybe this is because they're getting so used to losing, that they're kind of numb to it now. Looking at their next month of footy, they could either turn their season around, or it could quickly turn from just a bad start into a complete disaster, where they're trying to stave off winning their first wooden spoon. So I guess that, while their own team is so pathetic, they have to get their enjoyment from somewhere - Port is usually the number one target of their misguided joy.

As I said earlier today on Bay 13, if the Crows are 0-7 after losing to Melbourne (PLEASE LET IT HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!), they play a Thursday night blockbuster against Collingwood at Adelaide Oval. If they're winless at that point, the players may outnumber the Crows fans :)

I swear there was an incident identical to the Fyfe one early in Friday nights game. Mitchell and Mayne basically kissed and Mitchell had to leave the ground under the blood rule with a cut lip. The masochistic in me would like to know why that wasn't looked at.
Now don't shoot the messenger here, I'm not supporting the rules just passing them on; the Mayne scenario was different as he went in to tackle and not bump hence there is no responsibility for incidental contact

OK, I guess that makes sense, still don't like that bumping is pretty much the worst thing you can do on a footy field though.

Next riddle, where was the high contact in May's bump on Zorko? Is he responsible for Zorko's head hitting the ground post bump?

Facepalmed at Graham Cornes saying that Cunnington is a 2nd tier player on 7 news, perhaps he should look up the fact he was taken pick 5 in his draft.

Gibson fair enough & if he had said Greenwood i'd have agreed with him but Cunnington is a beast of an inside mid who's finally coming of age who relished being their #1 onballer.

Yep, work colleague based in Adelaide is in his early fifties and is a Norwood/Cows supporter. Proudly states that 2007 GF was the greatest football day of his life..AND he was there for 97 and 98.

Still ike the part where he has said to me in confidence that he enjoys watching Port play and has even almost been supporting our comebacks cos they are great to watch.

You haven't read the tribunal rules have you? An elbow is a strike and because of the Fraser Gehrig love tap punch adjustment at the end of 2005 the starting point for a strike is 80pts not 125pts for a level 1 offence. So if the MRP says its a level 4 strike its 325pts whereas if it was a bump and rough conduct, a level 4 bump equals 425pts.

Don't you remember last year and the Shaun McKernan elbow on the WCE player was a level 4 strike 325 pts and he got 2 games with an early plea, where as Tommy Jonas bump to a dopey unaware Roberton got him a level 4 rough conduct charge he got 425 pts and with an early plea 3 games. I wrote to AFL 360 about the stupidity of it all and whilst they didn't read my email out Robbo referred to it by saying he should have used his elbow and split him down the middle when I wrote about the inconsistency of the 2 cases.

That GM of football Mark Evans spent the summer reviewing and "fixing up" the tribunal system. Either he is a lazy bastard or thick as ****en pig shit and has done absolutely nothing about this inconsistency.

All he had to do was - leave the level 1 strike for the stupid Fraser Gehrig love tap at 80pts
change level 2 from 125pts to 225pts
change level 3 from 225pts to 325pts
change level 4 from 325pts to 425pts
change level 5 from 435pts to 525pts etc

But that is too ****en hard for the intellectual pigmy.
Picked it Saturday that the bullshit system where Evans reviewed the system and left it the same as last year ie didn't upgrade the level 2 charge from 125pts to 225, level 3 from 225pts to 325pts etc.

Whately on AFL 360 is going on about Mark Evans taking it to the tribunal. **** it if he can't even understand a simple basic flaw how can he have the brain power to take it to the tribunal. You don't need a trip to the tribunal just say an elbow and a strike with the fist is the same as a rough conduct bump from level 2 onwards ie 225pts not 125pts.

Merrett was cited for his crude strike on Swallow, which occurred during the last quarter of Saturday's QClash.
The incident was assessed as intentional, medium impact and high contact.

His initial penalty was 325 demerit points, which became 371.56 once his carryover points were added.

Merrett can accept a 25 per cent discount and escape with a two-match suspension if he pleads guilty.

The Match Review Panel had the ability to refer Merrett's case directly to the Tribunal, but it chose to deal with the charge under its table of offences.

General manager of football operations Mark Evans can also refer a case directly to the Tribunal if the MRP calculations are seen to be unreasonable.

It is believed Merrett's case won't be referred to the Tribunal, which is yet to sit this season.

...only two weeks? Brett Duncanson would be most impressed.

If the main board was anything more than smart arses soliciting likes this is the sort of thing that should be posted there.

I can't believe no one in mainstream media has really taken them to task on this.

Thomas didn't get games?
Almost comical isn't it.

It's that whole you only get suspended if the player gets injured thing again. It was a forceful and dangerous action and had Griffen done an incoherent interview after the game he'd have got 3 weeks.

......
I emailed AFL 360 last year and pointed this out and compared the McKernan hit on a WCE player (Mcguinty??) and Jonas' bump on St Kilda's Roberton and said a player should bump with their elbow. They didn't read the email out but I know they read it because Robbo said if you are going to bump stick out your elbow and hit them down the middle.

Might fire off an email tomorrow.

This is what annoys me. The AFL go on about trying to change the behaviours in the game (high bumps, etc), but they only seem to penalise players based on the outcomes.
