A tiered system works if you go back to the 80's and rather than the VFL appropriating the AFL, have a national league being the top X from every state league and relegation/promotion to/from VFL, WAFL, SANFL, etc

It’s true. It’s also true, however, that no one saw, at the time, the number of clubs as an issue. Why would it be an issue now?

My proposal is for a semi-tiered system. The teams in the “low group” aren’t only playing for promotion. They still have a chance to win the flag.

The fixture puts the top teams playing mostly against each other and the bottom teams playing mostly against each other. It diminishes disparity.

I’ve posted the basics before:
This is a simple version of my proposal:
* 24 clubs split into two divisions of 12: High & Low.

* Minor Round would have 26 weeks: 24 matches; 2 byes.
- 2x v. teams in the same division (22 matches)
- 2 interdivisional matches
(This makes sure the mandatory rivalries always happen.)

* Finals would be similar to the current format (8 clubs; 4 rounds).
- two tournaments (Gold Cup & Silver Cup)
- both divisions qualify to both cups

High Division Ladder
a. Top-6 -> Gold Cup Finals
b. 7-10 (Mid-4) -> Silver Cup Finals
c. Bottom-2 -> Eliminated/Relegated to Low

Low Division Ladder
a. Top-2 -> Gold Cup Finals/Promoted to High
b. 3-6 (Mid-4) -> Silver Cup Finals
c. Bottom-6 -> Eliminated

Silver Cup Finals
a. PF (4) -> Qualified to High
b. Others (4) -> Qualified to Low

Lol at this league for having Essendon vs. St Kilda as the nationally televised Friday match.
Cmon, it’s only Essendon’s 12th of 13 Thursday/Friday night games this year.

It’s not like it’s every week.

Although if you include Carlton, it probably is.

(Late check, they only have 12 this year. 25 combined.Given their combined record over last 20+ years, that’s #VFLBIAS in a nutshell)

Whilst I agree, the Freo v Bris game in the West won’t start on TV in the Eastern states until 2030.

Given it’s about tv ad revenue, and that’s rated on eye balls on screens, a game that starts at 1930 would earn more, as they can sell ads for more.

So, once again, rubbish AFL scheduling and network control is the issue.

Dynamic pricing to get into the Bombers v Saints game tonight, so $7 to get in tonight for adults.

What's the bet its only available in Victoria these last couple of rounds.

The AFL are going to do anything to hit their 2031 target of 10mil attendance, 2mil members (see freebies for the last few years) 1mil participants ( crank up Auskick from 160k to 400k)
