Port Magpies get Plapp

Port Magpies have picked up ex Tiger and Saint Justin Plapp. Started off with a bang in 98 before being traded and losing form.

189 cm, 87 kg, 25 yo

Could play CHF or CHB for us.

Not bad recruiting overall by the Magpies.
Weve picked up Plapp, Funcke, King, Francis, got Paul Evans and Ricky back and possibly Ronnie Burns could play a few games and Che and Kingsley might find themselves playing a few games at the Magpies too. And weve also got Beinke for the year. And possibly Poulton for a fair chunk of it. Not too bad at all.

Then there are the players that missed a fair bit of the year thru injury or AFL: Tony Brown (played 13 games), Ashley (14 games), Beinke (6 games), Carr (13 games), Ellen (10 games), Holmes (6 games), Lyle (14 games), Poole (2 games), Steed (7 games), Wait (7 games), Mcdowall (0 games).

If we can get full years out of Brown, Beinke, Carr, Lyle, Poole, Steed and Wait we will go along way to turning around the dissapointment of last year.

There is also talk that Danny Jaques may return. 200cm ruckman that played in the 98 GF. Left in 99 to go overseas.

Luke Whatman - his birthday today actually...turns 19. 181cm, 75kg

Dane Fitzgerald - 18, 183cm, 80kg.

Whatman seems like a reasonable player....averaged 24 disposals over 15 games for the Rams in the TAC Cup comp. Also kicked 6 goals and was in the best players more often than not.

Fitzgerald averaged 16 disposals over 10 TAC Cup games.

Cant find anything on a Lucas White at North Adelaide. Will look up the other players and see if i can find anything on them.

Luke Duncan sounds alright. Sounds like a young tough on baller who likes to win the hard ball.

Ben Fennell played in the Country championships (alongside former SANFL/AFL players like Rodney Maynard, Lochie Bowman, Britt Grocke, Mal Greenwood) and was named high in SA's best players in every game and made the All Australian Country side. Cant seem to find anything on what sorta player he is tho.

Ben Cooke is a key forward i beleive.

Nathan Blomeley also played in the Australian Country Championships for Victoria and was named in the best players in two games.

Cant find anything on Lucas White other than he is 22 and 191cm tall.

Luke Whatman from the ACT ... wouldn't be the son of Robert Whatman, fomer Port Magpie also from the ACT?

I was thinking the same when I saw the name and from the ACT.....

He won the Best and fairest in 2002 TAC CUP for NSW/ACT Rams after being 3rd in 2001 so certainly sounds like he can play and was training with Geelong prior to the drafts

He would have to be. Give him number 9 and see if he can get the hard one.

Port recruited Robert Whatman from Geelong, along with Tim Evans, IIRC. So if he's not related he oughta be! ;)
